Sidelong smile - "Go right ahead and look all you want. Looking - that's free."
Xabulba, we must all know each other already. How long has this particular group been together? I'm just wondering how much shared history we all have.
I would say that you have 10 levels of shared history.
Each character was recruited by Ruing into Oddjob 101. Oddjob 101 has been together for roughly 5 years and has seen action in Thrane, Cyre, Aundar as well as Droaam and Darguun. Oddjob 101 is Ruing's personal squad and under her orders only and is not subject to the regular military hierarchy.| Mountain |

A little bit about Mountain, then:
Quiet and reserved, like most Warforged, Mountain tends to be frighteningly intense when actually involved in a fight. He also tends to roar in a disturbing manner when entering battle, and rarely seems to even notice that he is injured. He never eats, drinks, or sleep like all Warforged, which may be disturbing to those that never met him. Mountain only joined up with Oddjob 101 three years ago, and so is relatively new compared to many of the others in the group. Despite the lack of military hierarchy, he calls everyone 'sir', except for other warforged.
| Malick |
Grubby Clark Gable. Firm believer in his own scruffy charms. Evidence suggests his optimism is not completely misplaced.
Background: Commissioned Officer (+2 Intimidate).
Malick is a mercenary at heart. He likes being alive and he likes winning. Those two things are not always compatible. Ruing has his admiration because he's still alive and he's winning often enough.
Ruing stumbled across Malick in a bar when he was fending off an offended husband initially with some well-placed words and later with a well-placed punch in the gut which brought the graduation party to an abrupt halt. A promising career looked as if it was vanishing until Ruing stepped in.
Whatever she saw in him (and hell, he really wishes he could remember that night) he's more than repaid. Malick knows quite well that Ruing is the reason he's still around. Cheerfully amoral, he's as happy trading words as blows and regards anyone who crosses his path as fair game to use in whatever way seems most appropriate at the time. Frequent setbacks have never daunted him. As far as Malick is concerned, there will always be another day, another woman, another fight and a full pay packet at the end of it.
Malick's problem is pretty simple. Every time he turns around there's another opportunity beckoning to him, each one more alluring than whatever he's doing at the time. Until he met Ruing, his concept of loyalty extended exactly as far as himself. Now Oddjob 101 has his loyalty and that includes everyone in the unit. He likes them. They're his kind of people.
In battle, Malick is cheerful, chatty and ruthless, manipulating everyone around him to get what he wants. When he's not in battle, nothing much changes.

He has tried many times to seduce Ruing again and never got anywhere. It's a game to him now. Quite what he'd do if she ever responded is a mystery.

I'll knock a bit off his age. He's only ever had that one night with Ruing, but he's always hopeful she'll succomb again. This time, he wants to be conscious. Also, he's really not the monogamous type, so however gorgeous she is, if she won't play, he'll find plenty of others who will.
Note amendments to initial backstory above.
| Typhus Aurelius |
A bit about Typhus:
Typhus is an odd person. He's unusually quiet, prone to staring off into space, and nodding to himself, as if hearing voices no one else would here. What redeems him is his loyalty. He never lies, cheats, steals or balks at a job. He does his part without question and without tiring. The only time he ever seems really, truly alive is during battle. He seems to glow from within with a strange pale light and his eyes light up as he takes utter joy in destruction. When battle is done, he's back to his normal, quiet self.
Recently he's begun to quietly announce that a doom is coming. Strangely, this doesn't seem to bother him; he merely announces it as fact.
| Rennik Ilzander |
The background is mostly fine, except that pranks aren't really Rennik's thing. I updated his background to explain that he landed in the stockade because he was breaking into the private library of an arcanist. That is definitely something he would do.
I also gave him a background bonus for being originally from Zilargo (+2 Insight).
The rest of the party would know that he is widely travelled. Gnome families are known for consisting of elaborate webs of extended relations, and his is no different, scattered across Zilargo and Breland. Rennik's impulsivity and impetuousness in "acquiring" magical knowledge, though, has put him at odds a bit with that family. (They like knowledge too, they're just more subtle about obtaining it.)
Rennik tends to be flighty and aloof, but he is also a brilliant wizard who is always thinking of contingencies. He considers Illusion to be half about arcane ability and half about understanding people in order to know what sort of effects one's illusions are going to have. This study of human(oid) nature is expressed in his skill at Diplomacy and Insight, as well as his high charisma.
He is loyal to his friends, although he may be too aloof at times to express it. He's generally not interested in moral concerns, although when faced with the opportunity to right some wrong or prevent a calamity, his conscience tends to tug him in the right direction.

I will start the game Monday regardless if bmars3 has his character ready or not.
I'm finished, I'm just copying over from Char. Builder. Everything up to Skills is complete, ignore everything after that, it's copied from another PC. Will be complete tomorrow.

Sorry, but I'm afraid I'll be gone for a bit, my computer is pretty much dead right at the moment. The video card is fried and it doesn't have integrated graphics, so it might be a week or two before I can really do much. Feel free to NPC Mountain until I can get back. Hopefully it will be sooner, rather than later.

Ok it is now offical Typhus has just creeped out a devil.

I'm in the same boat with a couple of my games.
Personally, I'd like to find a way to keep going if we can. Malick is one of my favourite characters, but that may be the selfish choice. The 4e pool isn't that huge. My thinking is that four regular posters is a manageable number for a pbp, but in the end it's got to be mostly up to what Xabulba feels comfortable running.

I agree with the others. We are down to 4, which is workable, and it so happens we cover the 4 roles. If someone is out there looking for a 4e PbP, we could work them in, but I don't think there's anything to stop us working with who we have. Of course, you'll have to design encounters with a smaller party in mind (and keeping in mind that Flint was an efficient killing machine), but the game runs fine with 4.
