So, looks like Pathfinder is getting its own fan podcast now. Which is good, I hope!

I was wondering when The Tome Show was gonna have an episode about PFRPG Core. Thanks for the post!

I just wished they would have read up on the subject more... so... many... errors...

Any chance someone has a list of Pathfinder related podcasts? They can be a bit hard to find, and the staff doesn't really publicize them either.

I've been a fan of the 3.5 Private Sanctuary podcast for over a year. Ryan Costello and Jay Dubski are the hosts. While their podcasts generally aren't "Pathfinder-Centric", they do touch on it fairly often. More so in their class review podcasts. Give them a try. :)

So when Ryan Costello mentioned that they were going to start up the Pathfinder focused Know Direction podcast with Jeff Greiner of The Tome Show, and a few other well known podcasters, I was SERIOUSLY excited. :D

As for mistakes, head on over to www.35privatesanctuary.com and post on their forums. It's a good bunch of guys and they're always open to criticisms.

Give a listen to both podcasts if you haven't already! :D

A very good podcast. Can't wait for more. There were a few errors that have been chatted about in their forums. I was hoping there would be more hosts to chat about the topic (Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook). I hope they do the SAME topic again with a different guest host(s).

I really liked the depth they went into with the one guest host (I think he was a guest host?). But would wish that they would get some other more D&D knowledgeable hosts to read through (hopefully play!) Pathfinder RPG and be on the host(s).

Two more 3.5 Private Sanctuary episodes have released. While the primary topics were a discussion of 3.5e classes and class features (Monk and Fighter in this case) at the end of the discussion there was a brief discussion about the Pathfinder version of both of these classes. I would wish for just a bit longer than a brief discussion, but I'm sure they are short on time.

It's always nice when someone else posts about my shows, I don't feel like a shameless shill.

Know Direction's been getting a lot of positive feedback, but the feedback is also mixed. One of the big points of contention was bringing in Kurt Wiegel, an admitted Pathfinder novice, as the guest reviewer. I'd tried to get more reviewers to have a roundtable discussion. Unfortunately, most of the people I invited couldn't make it or agreed then cancelled. So Kurt has to be given credit for showing up and doing his best with a system he has only passing familiarity. Ideally future co-hosts will be better versed in Pathfinder. However, after reading this post on the 3.5Private Sanctuary message board, I can see the value of bringing in more novice co-hosts.

I for one enjoyed the fact that a non-3.5 player was part of the review team.

As Pathfinder attracts new players, many will come from a non-3.5 background (I'm a prime example). If the show is just referenced in terms of 'what's different' from 3.5, you will possibly limit your audience. In many ways, it's Pathfinder that's got me into 3.5, not the other way around.

I accept I may not be in the majority, but as your listenership grows, expect more people from non 3.5 backgrounds.

I'm open to criticism. I spent a great deal of time reading 3.5 and Pathfinder sourcebooks, but I'm not a machine. Was there anything in particular that made you think I needed to read up on the subject matter more? A couple of errors I made have been pointed out to me, but I didn't think there were that many.

I really liked the that you only had one other host. Sometimes with so many hosts it can be difficult to get into much depth with the topic. The fact that Kurt didn't have much 3.5e or Pathfinder XP was both good and bad as others have stated. Since you had so much 3.5e and Pathfinder XP I think it made up a lot.

I'm hoping that you'll be able to do interviews with other more experience and less experienced hosts about the same product (Pathfinder RPG Core Rules) to gain other insights and commentary. As I recall the statement for Know Direction was to cover other Pathfinder products (I hope you can produce a chart for the rest of us to use). But I still think there is material in just the Core Rules that could come from other hosts (and other types of hosts).

Thanx for such a great job. Can't wait to hear more.

I'd never really considered re-reviewing the Core Rulebook, but looking over the release schedule, I won't have much to talk about in January. It might be a good time to look at the more GM-aimed content that I skimmed over in Know Direction 1.

Thanks for the suggestion.

are you sticking with future products? Will review things like Gods & Magic at some point?

Ryan, I have to admit that its been so long since I've listened to the episode that I wouldn't be able to give you a list right now, at the time I honestly expected that anything I would have had to say would have been covered by your own forum goes.

Don't get me wrong though, besides my one criticism above, I very much enjoyed the show, and recommend that people listen to it.

Fair enough. The main mistake that was pointed out to me on the forums was the severity and permanence of death. I failed to see how raising dead spells mostly negated the penalties for dying.

The plan is to review new and upcoming products on the podcast but print reviews of older books on 35PrivateSanctuary.com.

Does this mean that you will be reducing the amount of PF you cover in your 3.5 Private Sanctuary podcast, as well?

I've sent an email via your forums after listening to your podcast again with the things I noticed. Again, it was still an excellent show, regardless.

Reduce, no, but we were reaching a tipping point where we either include more Pathfinder content or we find another venue for it. So any mechanics discussion on 3.5 Private Sanctuary will still lead with the WotC rules followed by Pathfinder. If we make a rules reference in an episode that's not mechanics-dependent, we'll go with whatever.

Hey Ryan, many thanks for having me on episode 2 to talk about The Book of Divine Magic and other 4WFG products!

Robert

Great stuff, keep it up. Downloading episode 2 as I type!

Episode 2 was great. Good interview on a good publishing company.

I like the gnome thing. Almost a little Volo's Guideish

Sadly, Milinarsted, the Gnome on the Go, has almost universally been criticized. Mostly people disliked her voice. There will be a semi-regular Golarion travel guide segment, but with a facelift.

Really liked the 1st 'cast, can't say I overly enjoyed the 2nd one, but it wasn't bad. HATED the gnome!!!! As far as the rest of the podcast, I was glad to hear about a 3PP making some new stuff, but not sure that I'd ever use anything that makes spellcasters MORE powerful and make melee characters even less viable.

Maybe review some of the adventure paths and/or setting books?

Keep up the good work Ryan!

I'm in the minority I guess. I thought it was kind of funny. Maybe toned down a bit but...
