Official Ruling Request

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I see we are having problems to get official rulings in lots of problems we've been seeing, like the AOO from thouch and ranged attacks, the Smite Evil, the Barbarian and many, many others.

I would like to know why the pathfinder (officials) are not participating so much, and if we can do something to help you guys out in this matters that expecifically need some official ruling, like making one and only one thread for official answers, like this one.

Thoughts?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

1. Cause they have better things to do like make more adventure paths, or work on the advanced players options book (which might have some of the answers)
2. There are so many questions that are easy enough for your friendly neighborhood internet to answer and they have limited time
3. They are trying to take their time and get the 'official' ruling completely insinc with any other official ruling so that they all match and don't have contradictory outcomes
4. They figure the DM will handle it at the table and they don't want to tie the DM's hands with "offical" answers
5. It really doesn't matter to them how you rule so long as you have fun playing

******

Take your pick.

Hi Xum, I suspect the combo of releasing the biggest book they have ever produced (while still trying to be on schedule for their other subscriptions), Gencon and then moving their entire workplace and warehouse into a new workplace and warehouse, followed by a long weekend holiday all in quick succession may have something to do with it. All of that is an enormous amount of work/time which would otherwise be directed to the boards.

If you look at the blog, they have only just started getting that back on track with daily entries. I suspect they will be along soon.

I do like the idea of a single thread for official rulings. although it might get messy though/hard to find official rulings in a thread that could get VERY long as opposed to individual threads with titles on the subject requiring rulings. Either way can't wait to see what paizo staff give as official rulings!

And if you look on the customer service forum... the July and September pathfinder chronicles items got pushed back to October because of the stress of the things blackcat mentions above plus recreating stat blocks for the monsters in the bestiary

edit correction: June and August see this thread

If they are going to be "official" rule adjudications then I'd like to see them on the PRD wiki. A single top-level page labeled "FAQ" or "Rule Explanations" or "Rule Clarifications" would suffice. Then something here that makes JB or JJ think, "That should have an official clarification" they could just forward the link to another individual that skims the post and writes up the wiki entry.

Or perhaps they post on the forum in "Q&A" format (original OP's question in a quote block, followed by their "official" answer). Then the person who's transcribing it to the wiki knows exactly what to put in there...

I've been in RPG forums for a while now, specially L5R. And official rulings are REALLY necessary most of the time at least.

And I know they have tons of work, that's why I sugested a thread only for this, and with NO opnions, except official ones. I think it would help out a lot.

There are hundreds (thousands ?) of message threads with hundreds of posts attached to most, it would take hours of surfing to find a previouslly answered rule question, if one exists at all.

What Paizo needs to answer their Pathfinder players/GMs questions about rules and officialy rule interpertations is a special MAIN heading where players can as their question and a Paizo/Pahfinder GM will officially answer it.
It would even be better if it has a specific search built in so players/GMs could search it and see if their question was previously answered.

Make this section EASY to find in your website, make it a main heading like RULES FAQs or something!

They actually have that now (this thread was originally from 2009). At the top of the page, there are several links, in order: "About Paizo", "Messageboards", "News", "Paizo Blog", "My Account", and "Help/FAQ".

The last one links to all of the Rules FAQs for the individual RPG-line products.
