Hey, guys - sorry I disappeared there! As you deduced, James, the new baby was taking up all my time at home, and I also became much busier at work, which really left me very little time for PbP, or even logging in to message boards! All's well with the baby, thanks, and I'm really enjoying being a father. I'm glad to see that the game is still running, and you have some fine new companions joining you on your adventures. Long may the fun last!

Congratz (again) Callum!
(The lil' critters are time-sponges, but they are SOooo worth it!) ;P

Hope to see you later!

Just a heads up: I have ten illustrations of various size to work on for an upcoming Kobold Quarterly pdf series. So timing will continue to be erratic into the next few weeks. I'm going to stick with it, but updates will be irregular. I guess it's a pretty good rule to assume that will be the case from here on out.

Male Workaholic, level 10

Thanks for the heads-up, James. Good luck with the projects; I understand the getting swamped thing.

No worries mate, glad to hear that the illustration gig is going strong.

Male Workaholic, level 10

Totally random post, but I wanted to compliment French Wolf for the visualization he is adding to his spell effects for Herral. Nice work!

The Exchange

Ta, mate.

BTW all, I am about to get SLAMMED here at work, so posting may be irregular for the next 2 weeks. I SHOULD have time to post daily, but they won't be my usual novelettes. ;P

Thanks all!

Male Workaholic, level 10

But...I love your novellettes! How will I know what random thoughts are bouncing around Will's head?

Just kidding. Whatever you can do is great! Understand the work stuff all too well.

possible repeat post- :(

Sorry for absence,
Tech week for the musical, (Which I'm also IN), so a little past insane right now.

SHOULD be back by the weekend.

Laters~

Male Workaholic, level 10

Everybody doing OK over here? I've was stuck on a job for 3 or 4 days, and then promptly got the flu and have been out of commission for 2 or 3 days more. Just checking in.

Yep, all good here. I think we’re waiting on James to find some time to update.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Hey, hey. No updates for the game just yet; still need to get some things in order. I've got a few more weeks worth of freelance illustrations to do and my day job is set to get really busy pretty soon. Plus, I'm moving into a new place with two of my good friends and I have a new girlfriend who has this weird desire to spend time with me for some reason. I'm not giving up, though. Maybe next weekend when I have some time on my hands I'll try to throw an update together.

Male Workaholic, level 10

Sounds like you are an International Man of Mystery!
No worries, James - just missing all the adventuring goodness, but it is fun!

Hey Guys!
I survived the excitement of tech/performance week! (Bare-ly!)

I SHOULD be catching up on my postings tonight-ish/tomorrow, I hope!

Sorry for the absence!

The Exchange

Easter holidays, work and writing/running games next weekend for three days mean I'm not going to be posting much for the next ten days.

I'll try to keep on top of the game but feel free to NPC my character if you have to.

Cheers

Sorry guys!
I was busy last week, then got a last-minute chance to attend a stage combat workshop and re-up some certifications, then the requisite family Easter stuff,...

Um,.. I'm back! :)

I'll catch up asap!

And Happy (After) Easter!

On Easter weekend, I was informed that my brother's business was being audited by the IRS. Since then, I have been working with him to get all his financial reports ready for today.

I apologize for my absence; I've barely had time to sleep much less even check the boards. Now that it has been taken care of, I hope to review and get back into the game this evening. That is assuming I am still welcome.

Thanks for your patience.

Wow. WHat a holiday present!
:P

You are a good and helpful brother! :)

I wouldn't worry, we've been real slow here. See you inside!

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

No problem. The game hasn't moved at all, anyways. I'm finishing my last pieces for the current job soon, but I've been contacted about doing 30 pieces for another project... so I don't know when it'll be back up.

Well heck James!

Ah well, it beats being bored!
(I mean, it COULD be worse. You could have NO work, and be sitting around staring at your PC screen wondering why your players aren't posting any faster!)
;P

Good luck with the job(s)! :)

Glad to hear things are going well for you James. I’m looking forward to the game getting going again, but real life (especially things that make you money, further your career or comprise your love life) absolutely come first.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Thanks, guys. The good news is that the big project will be spread out over about 15 months, so only 1-3 illustrations per month. Not a huge commitment. I'm moving out this weekend and hopefully getting someone to take over my lease soon, so it could be next week that we pick up again. Thanks for your patience!

Male Workaholic, level 10

Glad to hear things are moving along, James. Good luck with the new digs.

Thanks for the kind words, Ragadolf. Good news it looks like he's in compliance upon first assessment - we'll have the final news in a few weeks.

Still super busy. I'm signed on for a big RPG project that should be about a year and three months long and I'm still getting some other small things (web articles, mostly). Plus, my day job is in its busiest month ever as far as I can see. I hate to say it, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to pick up the game again even though I'd really like to.

No worries mate.

Ah well ... let us know if you change your mind or decide to run something again sometime (Ravenloft maybe?) ;-)

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

Well, there goes another game. So long, and let's hope we get to see the pretty pretty art at some point. (In other words, tell us what it's for when you legally can? Please?)

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

I haven't signed anything and since it looks like the first chapter is up to download, subscribers have their copies, etc. I can say that I'm doing some work for Greg Vaughan's Slumbering Tsar adventures. I do a half-page chapter opener for each one and new monster illustrations as they show up.
Available at Tales of the Frog God.

The Exchange

Its a shame because I was enjoying playing Herral but it sounds like a great opportunity James, good luck to you with all that work.

Cheers

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Yeah, I had hoped to do a better job keeping this one going since I enjoy writing them up and they're a lot of fun. But such is life.

Yeah, Ravenloft would be fun and wouldn't work as well with my RL group- they're jokers. I also want to plan a RotRL sequel taking place a few years after my group's TPK. Eventually I'll make it happen.

Sorry to hear it, but glad to hear that your staying busy!

Yeah, sorry to hear it, but also glad work's keeping you busy. But please, please, PLEASE keep me in mind if you ever start up a Ravenloft PbP game. That's been my favorite setting since the day it came out.

Male Workaholic, level 10

I'm sorry to hear this hasn't panned out, James - this has been a really fun game. In any case, good luck with your endeavors.

Forgive my presumption on this, but I want to ask those who have been playing this Pbp: Would you like to continue playing this game?

I haven't DM'd in a long while, but I have really enjoyed the interaction of this game. I'd be willing to give it a shot and keep it going.

I'd need to know a some things before giving it shot:

a) Is James OK with this - it is technically his adventure and I would never presume to take over a creation that someone has invested time in.
Also, maybe some pointers on where he's going with this would be helpful as a DM, but that's not essential. Mostly, I just need to know he's OK with this.

b) Is everyone still interested in continuing? French Wolf, Ragadolf, Bryan, Mothman. Am I forgetting someone?

c) If we want to move forward, I would like to continuing the story as it is, but if we have to change it up to something else, would that be OK?

This more of a feedback on "what do you want" category question. Something dark and scary; more in the Pathfinder relic hunting vein; straight-up dungeon-delving; political intrigue? Just brainstorming here.

d) If everything is OK, I can DM PC Dayle for now, but eventually we would need to have him be replaced with other players or trim the party down to four? Do you have a preference? Anyone have any sugggested players that might be interested or do I put out a call on the boards?

This is just some rumination on my part. If everyone's comfortable with just leaving the Pbp as is and moving on, please don't hestitate to say so. I've had great fun with the Pbp, and I wouldn't want to leave a sour taste with mucking it up.

Thoughts?

Liberty's Edge

I'd definately like to continue the adventures of Malatar Kane (and friends) ;-)

So long as James is cool with it, and mos tof the group want to keep going, I'm pretty keen to continue.

If we need to change up the story, that's ok. Any of the story categories is ok with me - technically Mal is a Pathfinder (or at least closely aligned with them), but he's not that invested in the Society at this point, so if we steer away from PF Society stuff that's ok with me. Don't mind re players, I think 5 to 6 is a good number, but we can do 4, either way.

I would be happy if you continued the game, Alex and I'm glad you've enjoyed what little I've been able to put out there. Really basic outline-

Spoiler:
Basically, I've been constructing a free-roaming campaign from Dungeon magazine modules that I liked. This first one, for instance, has been Masque of Dreams from Issue 142. Except modified to be in scrubland instead of desert, with Azlanti gillmen instead of Zargonites. I also had planned to make the last section into either a one-on-one combat event against the bugbear leader of the goblin forces or some other elaborate trick to get past the assembled goblins and into the Azlanti ruin, where an oracle of waves waits instead of the cleric in the adventure. From there, I thought maybe back to Absalom to do Mad God's Key while waiting for the report to be filed with the Pathfinders. Except the Key wasn't a relic of Zagyg, it was a holy artifact of Abadar that opens a book about the "true life" of Norgorber. Instead of the Vecna priest and his undead in the adventure, the villain is a charming, corpulent priest of Norgorber and his cadre of thugs and thieves. The final confrontation takes place in a ruined manor in the abandoned section of Absalom- the priest makes the pitch that the PCs take the key and leave him with the book in order to "inspire the faithful". Everyone walks away happy, right? 3rd level I thought of doing "Final Resting Place" where the PCs put one of their mentor's old friends to rest. From there maybe the Last Baron modules. Feel free to use whatever you like.

And don't forget Davi, he's in there too!

The Exchange

In all honesty, I was slightly relieved when this game slowed down. Another game of Kingmaker also went kaput last month which reduced the number of games a tad as well. The main reason is I am due to become a Dad again in the next few weeks. My consistent posting will probably suffer after the summer, when my wife goes back to work and I am left holding the baby....and son.

On the other hand, I like playing Herral and the group is really good fun.

I don't know. I'll wait and see what the others decide but for now colour me very interested.

Cheers

P.S. could you explain a bit about your DMing style and what sort of adventures you might run, Alex. Homebrew. Sandboxy. Published stuff by Paizo....etc

P.P.S. my shift keys are playing up so no question marks. Sorry.

James Keegan wrote:

Thanks for the thumbs up, James. It is appreciated.

I like the approach you're taking - there's some great elements to work with there.

Davi - if you're still there - I am SO sorry for overlooking our favorite roguish sorceror. I was so nervous thinking about this I totally forgot my count and just went with who I saw on the last Pbp page. Please feel free to add your voice to the mix, and let me know what you think.

French Wolf - Totally understand the situation. As an uncle to 5 kids, my time is busy, so I can only imagine how it will be full-time. Just let me know what you think.

As for my DMing style, that's a little hard for me to explain.

I'll confess, I have never run a Pbp game - so if you feel some panic I understand. ;-)

My style can vary, but I tend to think of it as episodic - smaller, but contained adventures. I may add some more "epic" quests, but I try to avoid too much direct plot on the chracters. Generally, I'll use Paizo (or Wizard's materials) as the basis of an adventure, but throw in my own twists or plots. If we move forward, I may at some point bring in some of the stuff from Pathfinder Society adventures (since some of you are Pathfinders).

For combat, from all the styles I've seen, I would like to approach it in the everyone declares attacks and then I wrap up the results in one text. Maps are something I'm not sure about, but I may experiment with if we go on. This group seemed to work well without necessarily needing them, so I remain optimistic.

Does that help?

The Exchange

Herral's in. That should answer your question.

As for the PFS scenarios, I have many of them but only run them occasionally, such as at GenconUK in July. So just let me know the ones to avoid and I'll keep away from them. The last one I ran was Shipyard Rats.

Party size is no great issue for me, so long as we are having fun, I'll leave that up to you. 4-6 PCs are my ideal number.

Cheers

Yeah, count me still in, too. Addy has been pretty fun to play and I'm really intrigued to see what comes next.

Male Workaholic, level 10

OK - looks like Mothman, French Wolf, and Bryan are still in.

If no one minds, I'll wait a few days to see if we hear from Ragadolf and Davi. This gives me some time to sort out story and read some things

French Wolf - I was considering was Shipyard Rats, but no worries as it will be awhile before I get there in any case. We'll see how it plays out in the meantime.

Sure, I'll stay around. I need to make some more gambling based puns anyway.

Glad to hear. So Malatar, Herral, Addy, and Zareby are in.

Looking to get Ragadolf's feedback, and then we'll go from there.

Thanks for the followup, folks.
