Spell: Energy Immunity

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I was noting in the Apendicies 1: Special Abilities regarding Energy Immunity and Vulnerability how you gained a vulnerability to an energy you are immune to now.

How would you fellow players handle this with the spell Energy Immunity from the Spell Compendium?

I'm inclined to rule that the opposing vulnerability is gained. Though I'm not sure how that would really work with Sonic, as it has no opposite, as far as I know.

Fire - Cold
Electricity - Acid
Sonic - ??? (maybe allow force be a resistable energy, and it's opposite?)

I think that was meant to apply to creatures that already have the ability, like red dragons, and fire elementals in 3.5. Even if I am incorrect I would never take a 6th or 7th level spell to gain a weakness. The player would be better off with protection from energy. If it runs out, apply again.

I suppose so, I just don't recall the vulnerability going hand-in-hand along with the Immunity in 3.5.

Which is why I brought up the question

For spells it didn't(go hand in hand)but many monsters with elemental immunity had vulnerability. It was never a rule, just a balancing feature. It might be a rule now, but its not a good one.

For comparison, in 3.5 vulnerability went hand-in-hand with immunity because they were functions of the Fire and Cold subtypes. I don't remember any creatures with standardized analogues for Electricity and Acid.
