Creating a new 6th. lvl druid...what feats to take?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I am working on creating a new 6th. lvl Half-Elf Druid for my girlfriend for a local game we play in. Does anyone have any recommendations for feats to take? I am a bit clueless.

Assuming you're running under Pathfinder and not just 3.5, you've got 3 feats plus a free Skill Focus to play with. (3.5 just means you don't get the Skill Focus). Given how absurdly useful Perception is in Pathfinder, spend your Skill Focus on that. It's a class skill, she'll get a +2 racial bonus to it being a half-elf, and it's based off her primary casting stat so why not really max it out and have better eyes than two rogues combined? Maybe even take Alertness as well. (Assuming 15 starting Wis, 15 +2 racial +1 at 4th level = Wis 18 (+4), then 6 ranks +4 Wis +3 class +3 skill focus +2 racial, and maybe the +2 from Alertness as well could give her a Perception score of +20 at 6th level.)

Weapon Focus (scimitar) might not be a bad idea if she's focusing on melee, but otherwise, maybe Toughness. And of course Natural Spell. I've seen very, very few Druid PCs that don't take it eventually at sometime.

If she's mostly focused on summoning, make sure to take Spell Focus (Conjuration) and Augment Summoning.

There are a bunch more options, but I don't know what books you have available.

Depends on the type of druid she's playing. Here's a list of good ones:

  • Natural Spell
  • Augmented Summoning
  • Improved Initiative
  • Quick Shape Change (Complete Champion)
  • Zen Archery (Complete Warrior or Divine, can't remember)

It really depends on what role she wants to play. Druid is a great start, but she needs to pick if she's going to be an archer, healer, summoner, melee fighter, etc. Druids make greater archers, and if they pick a level of monk or two, melee fighters. Chose the Plant domain over an animal companion and she gets some mighty melee damage (we houserule that 1st level domain abilities are not limited per day -- a really bad change they did for final.)

Well this gets a little interesting a friend of mine plays a human druid and he took spell focus summoning and Augment Conjuration as his first feats. His summoned animals really helped the party out at lower levels. YOu might also want to take combat casting as well, considering that concentration checks are alot more diffcult to make. last but not least Natural spell.

If you are using any 3.5 books, Spontaneous Healer is a pretty good one if you don't have a healbot Cleric in the group. You need a good WIS score for that but a Druid should have at least a 16.
