I have read numerous postings over the years about drow and more or less pretty much has been said and resaid about them. Lets move to another overlooked subterranean race Duergar. There isnt much out there about them and I have noticed they can make some of the coolest villains out there. I mean there is a ton of material out about drow and their culture from game accessories to novels. I want to see some stuff on the duergar, there history, society and in general what makes them up. I know second edition Forgotten realms had some cool references but they never got into any details. In the realms duergar were a clan of shield dwarves captured by the ilithids and horribly experimented upon. When rediscovered they had the grayish drab skin and strange psion powers. So how has pathfinder renvisioned them.

I hope this gets explored some time in the future, too. There has been a little bit mentioned in the Hollow's Last Hope and Crown of the Kobold King modules... but mostly just that the dwarves of the monistary changed from worshipping Torag to Droskar, the Duergar god. I don't know if much else has been said.

There was more in Into the Darklands.
On Golarion, the Duergar are the descendants of the dwarves that never left their original homes in the Darklands as part of the Quest for Sky. Clans and families were shattered by the decision, and those that remained felt abandoned and betrayed by those that left. With their now-lessened numbers, these dwarves faced considerable hardships, pressed by other Darklands races on all sides, until they made a deal with Droskar in order to survive.
It was the corruption of the Dark Smith that transformed these dwarves into duergar. They began retaking lost ground and taking back their captured holdings. They now control a significant portion of Nar-Voth, the uppermost layer of the Darklands, including the only primary tunnel known to exist in the layer. Called the "Long Walk", this tunnel is a major trade route stretching between two duergar settlements and winding beneath central Avistan.

It's funny how similar that is to the drow backstory. Elves are left behind while others of their race flee, they feel bitter and abandoned, they're forced to survive the Darklands, and they begin to worship demon lords.
The lesson, children, is never leave part of your race behind, especially in the Darklands. :)

There is a key difference though: those dwarves that became duergar transformed as a direct result of their agreement with an evil power. The elves that fled into the Darklands and became drow did not. Theirs was more a result of changing racial perspective and outlook.
The lesson, children, is never leave part of your race behind, especially in the Darklands. :)
Or simply don't try moving your people into the Darklands in the first place. You can't forget the surviving Azlanti, who fled into the Darklands to live after Starfall; they became the dark folk and morlocks. The latter are believed to have changed even further to become grimlocks when some attempted to move closer to the surface.

I have an immense Durgear based adventure that I wrote -
As I am completly obsessed with them -
The adventure is filled with Durgear , Durgear Armies, weapons, items , magic etc !
Heres a little sample
The Durgear move by night and entomb themselves by day in underground caverns. During their nice stay with the Durgear ( who call themselves, translated to common “The Grayish Orderlites of the Impassive Infantry”) the party will come to see the Gray Dwarven nature like none before. The utter regimentation of the troops, the incredible loyalty to a superior at all times is astounding.
This loyalty is tested in a rather trying way. On occasion a disobedient Durgear is forced by his jeering Commander and comrades to don a suit of plate armour. One greatly feared as “Ye Smelly Encasement”, as a means of a horrible punishment the poor creature is forced to wear it for days and days. Through observing the bathroom habits of the Durgear, the players have learned that they have a rather unfortunate condition of “Bowellus Uncontrollus”. Having a diet composed of 70% fungi and badly brewed alcohol probably does not help this.
The low hum of the continual under the breath grumbling... The Grey Dwarves are consumed with bitterness, feeling that their race has been forever denied what was rightfully theirs. The pure bitterness of the Durgear manifests itself as an actual smell as they see life as nothing more than a backbreaking torment from birth through to death.
They have little mercy for the weak or helpless and enjoy tormenting each other in a very mean way. From a young age they are quickly schooled in the harshness of the world, taught that their lot in life is nothing more than a never ending grind accompanied by betrayal and then death.
The party will see the strange foods that the Durgear eat and have a taste of it as each day a few wizened sticks of something black and some grey goo is put into their cage for them to eat. The sticks taste like bitter blood and the goo tastes like dirty bitter radishes. The party will pick up basic Durgean terms such as “kill it”, “crush it”, “I dare you to eat it” and “ Ye Smelly Encasement”. They will experience the full hatred Durgear have for all things as they refrain from harming the players with a pained self control.
The Gray Dwarves have little understanding of the above world and find the concept of vegetation and some of the creatures they encounter not only amazing, but sadly inedible...

That is avery interesting take on the dietary habits What do you have by ways of social classification. Who are the rulers what are there dark agendas, and that sort of thing. One thing I have always envisioned duergar are being conjurers of devils as the drow are conjurers of demons.
