Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Death to 4.0, OK the newbie MMO wannabes can have it. If I want to play a MMO, I will load up my Lord of the Rings Online subscription.

Thank you for keeping DnD alive with "refined" rules and now I just have to find a PF group in my area.

I really like the changes that have been made thus far. I am not too keen on the Golarion. To me, it sounds similar to the other DnD worlds before it. In other words, it does not stand out from the crowd thus far.

I do like what I see with Kingmaker module. That was a really good idea.

I'm really glad you like Pathfinder.

Please don't lash out at 4e just because it's not for you. The RPG market is not a competition between companies, plenty of people play both games.

The final Pathfinder rules come out tomorrow! That's cause enough for celebration!

The only reason why I lashed out is because of their disregard for DnD's long time loyal followers. They had no regard for the general population like so many other real life situations. So I guess it is an conglomerate of feelings lashing out instead of a focused beating on a company's product direction.

You are correct that the gaming industry is very dynamic, it should be, and needs to stay that way. And I am happy that Paizo has an option through Open Licensing to create Pathfinder.

I guess to me, Hasbro\WOTC made a Microsoft move and Paizo is like a Linux or BSD company\group... :-)

However one good thing that impressed me with 4.0 is the art work ... ;)

There are many of us here who feel the same way. I personally feel your MS/Open Source analogy is spot on.

However, I think we should be a friendly and accepting community, despite our personal views towards the companies in question. I encourage you to speak your mind, but lately I've taken it upon myself to interject when people position D&D and Pathfinder as competing. That imaginary competition has lead to a tribal mindset, and does nothing but damage to the hobby as a whole.

I have not heard of WotC making any heavy handed legal moves to stop Pathfinder RPG, which I feel they could attempt, even if they didn't succeed. I take this non-aggression on their part as evidence that they aren't all bad, and that co-existence is possible.

Most importantly, if some youngblood RPG player who started out in 4e were to show up on this forum, I wouldn't want him or her to feel threatened. I would want them to learn about PRPG, and feel like they already knew a bit about the hobby because of the similarities between the games. There's no way everyone is going to fall in line with my hippie crap, but I just want what's best for the hobby.

It seems like you get it, so I'm quite happy.

No clearly we must ruthlessly tease and bully anyone who decents from our sacred position.... ;)

Welcome Anderlorn!
Nice intro, toyrobots. I think there will be a lot of new folks coming to the paizo boards in the next few weeks/months and that you may have to repeat yourself. Once everyone gets the live-and-let-live vibe (and some cookies) it'll be one big happy family full of paizo love :)

It is a blessing and a curse, but I have no problem repeating myself.

Welcome to the boards! Just curious - what is your area?

And don't forget to check the Find a Game section further down (which someone more skilled than I can link) to check for games in your area!

Very true.

Anyway, what WotC has done, is done. Let's enjoy Paizo's direction with continuing to support the 3.5 version of the world's oldest rpg via the OGL. Normally Lilith would come to offer cookies, but I believe she's at Gencon. So here *offers a platefully of freshbaked chocolate cookies*. Note the cookies are both lactose and gluten-free. Artificial sweeteners were used for anyone who's diabetic.

I want some cookies too! Please? (Puppy dog eyes)

*holds latest batch of fresh-baked cookies in front of Shadow13.com* Be careful; they're hot (and not in a Paris Hilton way ;-)

I never got lilith cookies...i feel kind of left out.

I am in the computer technical\biotech hub of North Carolina or Research Triangle Park.

Like FR, there are countries that I like and others I dislike (as far as themes are concerned. The content is still very interesting to read). But the world of Golarion, in my opinion, is as detailed as FR was, if not more, in the first two years of its publication.

The only thing Golarion is missing now are novels to support the world.

We all have our likes and dislikes, but the only D&D world I can imagine you might be speaking of in your original post, is FR. Golarion is much richer than DragLance and Greyhawk could ever be.

I am curious if you could expand on your reasoning for thinking that Golarion resembles GH or DL, if those are the worlds you speak of...

I don't care too much about Dragonlance, but Golarion richer than Greyhawk could ever be? Ouch.

The thing is, the movers and shakers here at Paizo Publishing are huge GH fans and they themselves have made it quite clear that Golarion, while not simply being a copy of Oerth follows in more than one respect the same traditions (for example, it's much more human-centric than the Realms, same goes for GH; the world is developed through adventures, not only through sourcebooks (or novels); and there's a whole world more room to expand Golarion with it's own ideas than it's possible with the Realms with it's plethora of source books.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the Realms myself; but for me, Golarion is the new Greyhawk; not the new Realms (just for the sake of comparison; in fact, I find Golarion to be a really unique place which can stand by it's own very well and has no need to be compared with any other settings).

I appologize I wasnt able to reply to this earlier, but I am here now. :D

Not to change this into a comparison thread, but I did find greyhawk lacking in the detail that Golarion has (history mainly). Of course, that is my opinion. If I recall correctly, after I played in the Original Temple of elemental Evil, I started reading up on greyhawk. I was alot younger then, (13), so I probably didnt have the interest level I do now when reading new material.

I cant believe I have been playing this game since 1981. lets see now... that makes me 41? Yikes!
