Whatever happened to Roger Moore?

3.5/d20/OGL

I remembered enjoying his articles for years in Dragon..but I haven't seen anything of him in a long time. Has he left the industry for good? Anyone know anything 'bout it?

Liberty's Edge

And here I thought we were going to discuss the worst Bond ever.

Haven't heard about the RPG Moore in years, sorry to say.

He's mentioned here. Unless Lisa/Sean/Erik/James/et al. have more recent data

Roger E. Moore seems to have not done much in terms of gaming according to Wikipedia once he left TSR/WotC in late 2000.

Paizo should see if he has any interest in the hobby anymore if they were inclined to. That would be someone who knows a lot about the core spirit of Dungeons and Dragons.

Liberty's Edge

Roger appeared on a messageboard a couple of years ago in request to a fan's query. Here's the meat of the text, unedited:

Thank you for your note. I am the Roger Moore you are looking for, but after I was let go from Hasbro, Inc. in December 2000, I let role-playing games go from my life. I sold, gave away, or threw out almost all my gaming materials, then moved on. Your invitation was appreciated, but I cannot think of anything to contribute to discussions on RPGs these days. It is best left to people who have kept in better touch with gaming. I can't even follow my sons' gaming exploits.

I should say that I don't have anything against Hasbro itself, even after being laid off. That's life. I liked the company and the people I worked with. I just wanted to put the past behind me when I was let go. It wasn't bitterness, just a desire to move on and do something new with my life. I had been an AD&D man for ages, and clearly it was time to be something else.

Hasbro, Wizards, and TSR were all okay with me. I got along with most people pretty well and wish them a good time.

Best wishes to you all,

Roger

~amazed look on my face~ Wow! Talk about a bad case of Gamers Burn Out! Poor Roger Moore.

Ouch.

I'd love to see him come back into the fold.

Someone from Paizo should sleep with him.

never ever ask Sean about that.

Especially when he's drunk.

Interesting. Thanks for the repost. This has all the hallmarks of someone whose whole life went through a 180 shift.

Wow.

Ouch.

*sighs*

Damnation.

I must admit to becoming disenchanted by the RPG life and taking year long breaks...but gosh that responce seems awfully permanent.

Bummer.

Well gee. His sage advice during the transition to 3e helped me understand the changes so very much.

Best wishes to Rog and his family. I hope he found much enjoyment away from the RPG world.

( and if he didn't.. please, can't someone from Paizo sleep with him to lure him back? I think this idea has MUCH merit. )

I understand wasgreg.

Of course I have more selfish motives for him getting 'back in the game' I want more game designers that are significantly older than me, not the other way around.

Liberty's Edge

Just to set the record straight, George Lazenby was the worst James Bond.

Scarab Sages

That's sad, but sometimes a person just hits the wall and needs to make a clean break. I hope for nothing but the best for Mr. Moore.

Let's get Lilith to bake him some cookies... maybe we can play AD&D on his front porch like Chenault and friends did with Gygax?

I'll bet he still has a Pathfinder RPG module, chronicle or article in him somewhere. ;)

Plus, Erik has special super-powers. He got Reynolds to stop playing World of Warcrack and now look at all that "win" and "awesome" flowing from his keyboard!

Maybe Roger just needs a restoration spell. Either that, or, if he's still feeling that way, we need a wish spell.

Anyone slept with him yet?

Awesome this.

It sounds more like to me that he wasn't just burned-out, he turned his back on industry he felt turned its back on him. Think about it - he wrote the articles bridging the way to 3e... and then was let go? Thats like, "thanx for all your hard work, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out".

Ouch :(

On the other hand, he didn't bad-mouth anyone... thats a door left open, if you ask me. ;)

{Erik needs to wear his sexiest lingerie for this assignment}
