Scene is a trend and subculture evolving from skate punk, chav, glam rock and emo[54] and is closely tied in with the new rave and Indie subcultures (i.e. Ally Clark.). Scene kids are typically suburban middle-class teenagers. In the early 2000s scene fashion was influenced by metal, pop punk and the goth subculture but since the mid-2000s they have gone for a more retro 1980s-inspired indie look.[55] It is becoming increasingly common in the USA, Australia and the UK.[56] Hairstyles vary, though currently the most common seems to be razor cut hair teased up in back, or flat-ironed straight hair with dyed streaks sometimes called raccoon ('coon) tails and bangs.[57] Fashion mainly consists of skinny jeans, band t-shirts, hoodies, miniskirts, leggings, bullet belts,[58] name brand clothes/handbags, skateboarding apparel (fur-hood parkas, skate brand t-shirts etc), wristbands of various designs, Vans, & flats seen as typical scene shoes. Typical colors for clothing include black with bright colors. Notable fads include being straight edge[59] and using "text talk" on their Myspace, Bebo and Facebook accounts. Many are also vegetarians or vegans, generally because it is considered cool (similar to how they view straight-edge) rather than for ethical or health reasons. By the end of the decade although scene is still a popular style among younger teenagers, most scene kids adapted an "indie" style, although many kept their music tastes and hair styles. Many scene kids in Canada abandoned their scene kid look for a cyber goth/Raver style. More recently, scene kids have opted for a tough guy look which consists of hardcore band shirts and gym shorts. This style was copied and adopted from the American hardcore music scene, which was, and still is used by many hardcore music fans. This style is also most common in the south and northeast of Canada. Not given much credit to the culture, it at many times inspires much youth to follow into the business of art (oftenly, music is the one that is chosen the most). Some scene kids become popular by putting their photos on MySpace, Buzznet, Bebo etc. and they are then called Scene Queens. They set new scene trends and often work as models. They become role models to other scene kids. Today, one of the most popular scene queens are: Audrey Kitching, Zui Suicide, Hanna Beth, Jac Vanek, Phoebe Phobia, Brittany Kramer, Jeffree Star, Brookelle Bones, Kiki Kannibal, Dakota Rose, Dani Gore etc.
Sounds like a bunch of kids looking for attention. But what do I know, my sense of fashion tells me that a black tee shirt and pair of jeans look good on pretty much anything.
All these old people surprise me in that they even know how to use a computer.
