WotC, to me, came across as trying to be hip and trendy using the buzzwords of a sub-culture generally not associated with D&D. It just struck me as odd.
"Win a popularity contest."
;P
Geekdom is a sub-culture that is commonly associated with D&D. Geekdom as a sub-culture has a connection to the whole "Popularity Contest" thing as "geeks are commonly represented as unpopular and always wanting to fit in with the 'in-crowds' aka becoming popular."
I had a much better post before but the forums ate it. They won "popularity" contests in Revenge of the Nerds or any other Hollywood movie about "geeks / nerds" usually. So in the end I would say that it does have an association with D&D though the geekdom sub-culture.
Maybe in the movies but not always in the comics.
The Hulk - Big, strong, stupid. He's the hero
The Leader - Brilliant, uses mental powers. Villain.
... Marvel teaches that muscles trump brain power every time :D
Read Richards and Dr. Doom is brain vs. brain, Iron Man is all brain turned into muscles and Prof. Xavier is nothing but brain and they win all the time.

Iron Man couldn't beat the hulk or Thor, and Chuck needs muscle to lift his step-brother's hat ;-)
The meanest team up of brains and brawn was in Alpha Flight I think. Box with a direct neural interface to Forge. As soon as Forge thought of the solution, Box made it reality.
Ok, now we're really off topic...
How about brains are too squishy to make shoes out of?

D&D Underoos?
Can they get Jessica Biel to be the model?
As long as it isn't Vin Diesel --- considering his history with D&D!

I'm sure the ladies wouldn't hate the eye candy.
... cept my wife. She doesn't like Vinny boy.

I wonder what sizes this should would come in anyway. I know a lot of shoes stop at size 13 which makes us freaks (14 and up) just full of death pony sadness (I'm a size 14 myself).
