Okay, I got Gloisil all ready and an alias created. Valegrim, if you would look over Gloisil and let me know if anything needs to be changed. I used your method for determining stats, but standard skill points, etc.

Hi guys,

I am a long time player in Val's world. All the rules for character creation are in Val's homebrew section in the discussion forum. If you have any questions specific about parts of the world I can try and answer them as best as I can.

Val has a bit of an odd schedule so he usually doesn't post toward the end of the week. Sundays and Mondays are when he is most active on the board.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy his world as much as I have.

Thanks for the hint.

I found the rules for Ability scores and Hitpoints, but I heard some things with Skill getting additional points but don't know the details.

K; so somebody help decide or vote or something; do you want me to GM this thing?

If so; post it; I will need all the players to chime in and say here so I can look at your avatar and character sheets and we can make adjustments for my world; from what I have seen here is some stuff to start thinking about as most probable as I run a bit more of a heroic game.

looks like most characters will recieve:
3 points to spend on a one a stat or spread between stats as desired
10 points of freebie background skill points to round out your background plus a couple things I give depending on your culture; more on that later.
one free feat at level one; but cannot be combat oriented; any creation or culture or something; this is to help your roleplay development.

I have been in Val's game for about 20 years RL. I believe this is what you are looking for. Have fun everyone.

Ok; there are sea elf communities in this area; the two continents come together a bit like north and south america; not quite that thin; but sea elves are on both sides; most of the sea elf armies when with all the Elves to the southern continent to fight the ancient army of the elves; the snakemen.

It should be noted that no one has seen and elf in the last three years, half elves not included; as they all returned to the elven kingdoms; they about 4 months ago; the elves; practically all of them from every elf race; wood; sylvan, high; gray, sea; all in a massive horde; moved out killing everything in their path; though road around the holy cities; and egypt; they just popped up with 4 of their gods on the east shore of the southern continent and killed everyone and everything marching a line accross the contentnt and the ocean; sinking ships, wiping out to the last man every human, halfling, orc; everyone until they met the dwarven armies; Eyptian armies and all the refugees at lead by the Greeks at the Well of Life.; thus each army stared at the other, the great host of elves chanted with a mighty song "for the greater good" and thus sought to kill all on their way to fight the Snakemen armies farther west; but lo, the great Emperer, newly declared ruler of all man, elf and dwarf; did appear with the Orb of the Imperium between these vast forces; and with a massive display of sheer power; thus did the forces not move; The Leaders and Gods of the Dwarves; Elves; several Eytpian dieties and the Pharoah did move into this center to meet with the Emperor; thus they discovered Sebaston, an Ancient elf from when the Elves ruled all the lands over 4000 years ago had returned with the lost Orb; by Law he truly is Emperor; thought killed on his day of crowning so long ago; thus did the Gods of Dwarves, Elves, and by ancient pact; humans; all say that Sebastion is Emperor, and thus did all kneel to the power of the Orb.

This new is less than 3 months old; it is spreading like wildfire; many or furious with the elves for their wholesale slaughter and lots of consipracies about about why they left 3 years back.

Celts are very close to elves, generally speaking; but feel bit betrayed when the elves did not help them against the hordes of chaos who have ravaged their lands; your likely to get a bit of prejudice and have to be extra good and helpful to survive.

Dwarves are pretty much in the same boat; as they shut the doors to their kingdoms as well and people blame them for not helping not knowing the dwarves just decide they cant fight a two front war and are battling for their existance against forces from the Underdark

Sea Elves know true terror; some very nasty things have returned and begun swimming in the oceans; very nasty this from Old; horrors of the time before humans; things allied to the Old Ones.

as for another player; all up to the party, I am not even sure how many we really have.

I have no problem with those feats.

Seems we've got our selves a DM. Agin, thank'e every so much to Wicht fer poppin' in an' offerin' some o' yer time t' throw us some adventurein'. Very much appreciated *bows* in thanks.

Ont' Valgrim's stuff.

It all sounds good, though it might take me a bit o' time t' get my head space wrapped around yer reality. Also, I must admit t' havin' never played with the Psychic rules, ever, in my time as a gamer.

SO, t' yer rules and world an' stuff. Y'see I came a cross an image and thought "Cool!"

** spoiler omitted **

And then I came across the 'Shingle Runner' feat in "Curse of the Crimson Throne" and thought, "Hey! Maybe I c'n create a Feat outta that t' reflect a Elf whut lives near th' ocean?" AN' so's I give ye this.

** spoiler omitted **

I'd be puttin' yer points fer stats t'ward me Con, yer points fer skills t'wards, well, um, skills. *^^* an' yet bonus startin' feat t'wards takin' that, if'n ye'd allow me t' be havein' it?

So's t' summarize, some where down in th' Greek type islands there are 'Island Elves'. Who are a mite more 'primitive' an' such. My character is off seein' the big wide world an' learning about things.

Thoughts/comments an' th' like? Let me know whut ye all be thinkin'. ^_^

Oh, an' just one more weensy thing?Would foks mind if'n I kind of invited another newbie player int' th' mix? There's space, right?

But, I'm the type of guy that builds the backstory along the numbers. And I need some guidelines there.

IIRC we were to roll two sets of stats and take the best of the two... In Order? Or just arrange as see fit? Or ... I don't know.

Then there where some special rules for Skills and Skill points, ...

Could you summarize the creation rules, or point me to a place where they are summarized?

Thanks.

Um, okaaay. ^^; That's all a little intense an' I'll be more'n happy t' keep playin' th' hick/rube type o' thing with all that goin' on in yer world.

*Reads rest of post. Does happy dance* ^_^ Yay!

Spoiler:

So's which feat are ye happiest with? I mean "Aquatic Adaption is all well an' good, an' t'would be a naffy thing t' be havin' but.....It dos seem t' be an awful 'cliche' type o' thing t' be honest.

Th' "Wave Rider" feat just seem t' have soo much more 'character' to it. Even if it's definitely not got as much 'oomph' rules mechanic wise. Any ideas on finishin' it off? There's that "Takes 1D6 less damage" thing t' be sortin' out yet? Agin', thank'es muchl-y! ^_^

So, as fer m' freind joinin' in? Um, they've things clutch-en at 'em in Real Life whut's probably goin' t' be holden' 'em back from joinin' in at th' moment. V_V *sigh* They do drop in an' read the forums, so's maybe things'll pick up for 'em?

SO's, just another question. Th' extra Skill Points? They're spent like normal, right? With points goin' int' class skill at one fer one an' t'other skills goin' int' 'non'-class skills at two fer one? Do we need t' be showin' where all this extra stuff is bein' spent? An' whut's th' best ways t' be goin' about it? Another thing, If'n it's a class skill; We put a point in an' get a +3 along with any stat bonuses. If'n it ain't a class skill, we put a point in an' pretty much just get th' stat bonus, I'm thinkin' correctly?

I've edited me character profile t' match things up't a pint an' just waitin' on th' clarification o' some things t' be finishin' it off. ^_^

Ooo! lookin' forward t' readin' abouts all the shiny, um, *cough* er .^^;. equipment lists we're t' be gettin''! ^_^

The 10 points are for background skill; thing you would have learned in your life like dance or sing; or games; or rope use if you did macrame; maybe your like to read so got a knowlege skill.

think of it this way; almost every race has a "coming of age" ceremony when kids get chosen by some mentor or guild or group to be trained in some skills for the community or toward their social standing; so be it animal husbandry, fishing or the like; these extra skill points are to teach the skills of a profession and flesh out your character.

As for which feat; doesnt matter to me; choose which fits you best. hehe keep in mind; peeps that talk like you do are all from the far south; I have real southern plantations down there and redneck dwarves so no reason why you cannot be originally from the South Seas and for some reason spent time up North with the bluebellies.

are you thinking about changing your character? no problem if you want to; just wondering.

Uh, I'm a little behind in getting my Character done... might take some more time, as I know work next week will be hell. I hope to not slow the rest of you down.

Sorry.

NP; am ready whenever you guys are; so far I dont think anyones characters are done; would be nice to be able to start, say, next Sunday, but am good with whatever pace.

I know, for example, many characters will need to pick new dieites if that is important to your character. Also, will need to tell each person a bit about the culture that they are from; I havent heard much but from like three people; so would like peeps to check in so to speak so I know how many to arrange the game for.

thx

There's th' simple lil blurb on me page whut goes somat like this;

Sunset: (As she prefers to be called by her friends) is a cheery, happy soul. Having grown up about the ports and harbors of (the Adriatic sea) she has earned a living, up until now, by working on small fishing boats and trawlers or by providing impromptu entrainment at the small local taverns in the hamlets where the ships would put in for berth.

Now, slightly bored of the sea (And always cleaning the salt from her hair), she has headed inland to see what the world at large holds in store for her.

N'so, I wus thinkin' that th' Island Elves of which she wus a part of are 'Native' like. Simple hunter, gather-ers who might supplement things with a bit of 'natural' crop farming and other horticulture'l endeavors.

Now, bein' Native don't mean bein' Stoopid. frowns and waggles a warning finger at folks

I dare say a 'Hunter/Warrior' type o' Elf could put a arrow powered by a 'Ten Elf' bow through a target at quite a distance. Plus, they'd have their 'Nature-Druid' types an' what nots t' call on fer 'fire support', as it were.

Since they're more like Seals then Fish, they'd be on goodly terms wi' th' Merfolks there abouts an' probably have good trade relations wi' 'em. As fer raiders an' such? Well, every community puts up with that sort o' folk in a fantasy setting, right (^.~) ?

Sunset herself? She simply seen a 'Tall ship' sail on through an' simply paddles out an' joins th' crew as a hand an', in doin' so, learns th' trade o' sailin' a ship. In th' course o' said learnin' th' ropes, Hee hee, I made a funny! ^_^, she also passes th' time at learnin' how t' be entertainin' t' make th' 'Slow times' go faster. Said vessel takes her all abouts th' place till she lands where ever th' rest o' every one is meetin' up. ^_^

Does that do it fer enough back ground-y type info?

Oh, an' I got's me skill pretty much sorted out. Um, a little help in finalizin' languages'd be a help. :)

Iz it shiny time now?*^_^*

Do you read any Marvel? when I think of the Sea Elves in my world; I think of like Namor and the Atlanteans; so they are pretty high technology (for fantasy setting), glamourous, artsy fartsy types that like a simple uncomplicated life.

As for hunting; most fish and celphalopods; as for war; goggle eyes; sauguine, and aberations; lately lots of trouble with Drowned Ones, Deep Ones, Abolithes and other servants of the Old Ones. The Oceans have become very dangerous places; more Ghost Ships than ever sailing the surface or the deep; old places becoming undead fortresses; someone seems to be gathering all the dead from long past naval battles and various cataclysms

Allies; various human bands, merfolk, fae of either court, Titans. During the Troubles, many of the Celts took refuge on the island chain that is protected by a large group of Titans; on Titan stands on an island like a guardian; full runic plate armor with great spear, sword and sheild; and stares East. He never leaves the small island; never sleeps; other titans bring him food and whatever he needs; it is said he gaurds some great treasure. He has a great golden horn; said to summon 30 of his warrior brethern at need.

The Titans are very upset with the Elves for "the Great Purge" though they understand the reasoning behind it; Titans spoke very elequantly at the elven imperial court.

other allies; some various dragons.

dont worry about being underpowered; I realize your class is gear dependant. I dont know who your diety is; as a half elf; you can follow elven dieties of Correlian or Vandrie or Bahamut (the platinum dragon) or Frey of Viking lore; you may also choose a human diety of various cultures though he has to be lawful or have paladin class levels. I noticed that you use a 2h sword and 2h and Greatsword are Frey's weapons of choice, he is cross cultural and very worldly as a traveler and known to have contacts in every land.

Ok; that sounds good; The Celts trade with the Vikings a lot as the Northmen cultures are on the other side of the ocean East and North of the Celtic area though a vast ocean is between them. Nearly half of the Celtic area is Forest.

there is a smallish group of Knights, Paladins, and Caveliers who came out the the South close to the Roman area; they have been helping the Celts and giving support and generally leading attacks against the agents of chaos. they might be a good choice as tutors and they work with the forces of the Holy Cities and are generally very worldly. The leader's name is Quentos, he is a southern lord; his retinue is about 50 knights/paladins and about 80 spearmen and 30 Viking warriors; he typically comes to an area; has the spearmen stay and guard the populous and help move them to a safer area; while he and his knights attack and harass enemies in the area, the vikings scout; find enemies and do the heavy lifting and protect the spearmen. Lord Quentos is a little bit nuts; very eccentric, but brave as all get out and tough as a box of nails. I picked this guy because he gets around. So, you would get a lot of general knowledge; also; elves and most half elves left for the Elven kingdoms and the South; being with him would give you a good reason for staying. If you like this idea; I will flesh it out for you.

as a Celt; all things of iron or steel are half price, hence the name the Iron People; so you can refund yourself that cost. it is important to have versatility in the Celt area; their specialty; so you can have the general feat; Knight Training; for free as a bonus; this feat allows you to pick on other class and multiclass with it with no penalty. This will give you options consistant with the culture.

if this sounds good to you; I will give you more details and we can do your backgroun items; for that I need 10 percentile rolls with no modifier. Also; need you to roll a d6 twice and give me the numbers; this will tell me your birthplace in the area.

The numbers on Merrik are mostly done, I think. Have a look at them.

I have an idea for background, but would like to get a bit more info on Half-giants in your world (and I don't possess the EPH and d20srd.org is apart from the stats not really helpful there).

I hope I did the background skills right...

I didn't really come up with a hook for Merrik, so I'm going to take one of those that you provided. Let me know which one works best with the story you have in mind.

Thanks,

Ok; Now as expected; the Sea Elves have the greatest Navy in all the known world and they sail everywhere. So; to represent this; you can have the free bonus feat; Obscure Lore; which will give you a +4 to your bardic knowledge. hehe sailors love to talk and tell stories.

Elves have staunch allies (with some tribes going back nearly 4000 years) in the Norse and Finn cultures; often take on Viking Warriors and Finn Mystics (druids and bards). It is said; sea elves taught the Vikings to sail; they have the second best ships and war fleet in the world, and taught the Finns woodlore and mysticism. The Greeks have the greatest Merchant Marine and more sea going barges than anyone; they also have the most port cities. The Western Greco/Roman Empire has a force of 15000 vikings or so that guards is the special elite force to the Western Princepts. This is important as the Bablylonians just finished their 15 year civil war which involved greece; rome, sumeria; bablylon; eygpt; the holy cities.

ok; about sailing; 5 great sea monsters now roam the world making any shipping very dangerous; losses of everyones sea craft are staggering. Where they came from; nobody knows; but everyone is whispering the return of the Old Ones.

Also; 2 points of rope use and craft: rope making and Knowlege: Sailing vessels and ports.

ok; need 1d6 from you four times; and 10 percentile rolls to flesh out your background.

Ok; need a d6 roll twice; for birth location; then 10 percentile rolls.
dont worry about a hook; I got one for you, whole box of hooks actually hehe.

As a Goliath; you may have the Auspicous Markings Feat as a freebie as well as a +2 to any knowledge roll about giants. Also; you can have cold protection 5 as it is very cold in the peaks where your people live so you can also have +2 survival in cold environments.

Ouch! I declare my dodge on the DM! ... damn, no dodge.

birth location (1d6=4, 1d6=1)
10 percentile rolls (1d100=100, 1d100=83, 1d100=64, 1d100=10, 1d100=49, 1d100=97, 1d100=7, 1d100=57, 1d100=80, 1d100=87)

Wow! There's a 100 and only 2 really low rolls. Half of the rolls on the highest fifth. I hope that's good.

i will change my character around a bit
with the extra money, i get back i will upgrade to banded mail if that is ok?

can i stick with a pathfinder paladin or do i need to change to a 3.5?
ditto with half elf

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Please change to 3.5; I dont have any pathfinder stuff. Dont bother with your armor; I will give you a set as background as part of your paladin knighthood. Save your chain though; as I am going to give you a manservant; kind of a butler/squire and he can wear it.

ok everyone.

here is my email; valgrymr@gmail.com use this email and put Val's homebrew 2 as subject line; that way I can do your background stuff and we can interface about your characters; also, as I draw out pictures as needed for the game; maps and stuff; I will send them to you in email as a jpeg file.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

ok; need d6 number two times; also 10 percentiles. Its great having a gnome; gonna introduce you to the gnome hero Hava Gooday for your adventure tie in tread.

Also need a d6 for times and 10 percentiles for this halfling.

it changes; there are no good and bad, just different results.

dont worry about a hook; I got one for you, whole box of hooks actually hehe.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

m half elf Paladin 2

Male Halfling Rogue / 1

I've updated Bob's Profile. The 10 Extra Skill points were put into Perform: Dance, Sing & Wind Instruments. As for his past, I was thinking that he had been on the minstril circiut performing wherever he could a little extra money. Unfortunately, he only earned a little extra money and decided to put his quick fingers to work as a rogue, not a thief but as someone who could be used for his balance, trap checks and trap disabling. I may do a little more adjusting to his skills.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

In my game; Halfings have no permanent towns or villages for the most part; some might plant seeds along a route; but others come by and harvest; things like that; Halfings travel from place to place with anyone else traveling; and sometimes in large caravans; I am talking large like 400 or so halflings. They stop places and so odd jobs; fix things; work fields; sing, dance; and generally have a good leisurely time; with all the wars around the globe; halfings have had a rough time of it; staying longer in one place than ever before; depending upon the larger and more warlike races for protection; i am going to start your character out in a gnome city; about 50 halflings have taken up roots so to speak with the Gnomes who like halflings anyways but often the two races dont see eye to eye; gnomes are to serious when they are serious; and to prankish when they are into pranks and jokes. Anyway; your family is related to Bob the Halfling; a hero among halflings and probably the greatest rogue in the world; funny that your named Bob; maybe your his nephew. Big Bob, as you call him; is friends with Hava Goodday of the Gnomes; and being the high falutin mage illusionist that he is; your family decided to stay and hide out under his protection; Hava is a master at illusions or seemings as he calls them; make it seem like your wagons are really boring hills.

anyway; will try to get you some background tomorrow sometime; but this will be the center of it; there are probably 400 gnomes in this area; gnomes have wanderlust, not as much as halflings; but sometimes they ride with you; their helpful as they are good at fixing things like wagons.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Ok; Bob; am gonna start you in the Gnome village, please send me and email as that is how I give you guys maps and such; Valgrymr@gmail.com

ok; your family and other groups of halfings; about 50; have been hanging out here with the gnomes for the last couple years during this time of "Troubles" ie general all out warfare between seems like every big race on the planet.

The gnome village is well defended, fortified and hidden by illusions; surrounded by a minefield of explosive runes and has lots of artillery; seems the gnomes dont want in help with the defenses; so the halfling just hang out; do farming and are just sociable which suits the gnomes just fine; their race lives many hundreds of years and tend to be great storytellers; they also make wonderful beer and always have snacks on hand.

About this time of day; Hava Gooday; a gnome hero wizard who wears a giant rat mask; usually lays out a very nice spread of food and beverage and tells stories from his countless adventures.

You were heading over there with some friends as everyone likes a good story; when suddenly Gnomes are running everywhere; the halfings kinds of stand around wondering at the strange behavior; when a gnome comes up to you Da and says; group of evil ones spotted; take cover; so; naturally; about half of the halflings move into the wagons and about half start rubbernecking and looking around for the bad guys.

With your sharp eyes; you see that Hava, Pater <his friend and grandnephew, and Gloisil his great <a few times> grandson seem to be striking purposefully; Hava has his wizard staff and Pater is wearing his swords; unusual for a day in the gnome village; up in the hills yo use the gnome artillery warming up and aiming at targets. naturally; you wander over to see what is going on; no safer place than behind a wizard and a true warrior.

you see a huge mountain of a man running up to the village; silly bugger is gonna hit the mines if he doesnt stop; but he does; he seems winded; leans on a tree to catch his breath; in the distance you see a small cloud like a roudy group of something in chasing him.

Hava says: "Onewonderswhyyouhaveleft yourmountainouspeaks...Areyououtcastfromyourpeopleforsomecrime? Speakthetruth, whyisyongnollpackchasingyouandwhyhaveyouleadthemhere in the annoying fast way gnomes speak.

Their are three Whooshing booms; that make your ears ringa bit; so you miss what is said next. In the distance where that cloud of dust was; there is a lot of white steam and flashing noises and the ground trembles; then Pater moves out; must be wearing his magic shoes because he is walking at a fast speed. He gives the Goliath some directions past the mind field; then continues off.

This is where I am going to start the Adventure for the gnome; halfling and Goliath;

PBP Valegrims Homebrew Two up soon.

Ok; If you have read my other discussion board for my other game; you know I have some rules changes; will try to post them here as I remember them.

first off; as it matters to level one characters; i dont do the -10 hp and your dead thing; I do minus your constitution or 10; whichever is greater.

Odds are Lorm was just letting you guys know what a great DM Val is. He's a longtime player in Val's tabletop and playing in our game, Val's other PBP.

I play Astinos BTW.

Have fun guys.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Lorm and Balfic have been playing in my world for over a decade Lorm; hmm maybe even over two decades; there not playing but a good resource for you guys if you have questions about general things like game physics or how I do things; stuff like that. Or if I am not online, one of them might see a question and give me a call and I will have them post the answer.

As for number; all I really need is one player hehe; but knowing the number helps me plan the adventure so that everyone gets a chance to use their skills and feel special, needed, wanted; and all warm and cuddly; lol.
