It's a pain in the butt.
I'm trimming down replies, anyway, but right now, I have to rebuild post structure if I have cascaded replies in posts that are too long.
I sometimes have to spend more time fixing layout than writing what I want to write.
Is this on your agenda yet? How many loved ones, pets, and first edition comic books do I have to abduct to make you do it?

I don't know about lengthening the quote amount (heck, I'd prefer if it was actually shorter), but I've just added "close nested quote tags when abbreviating quoted text" to the to-do list.

Keep in mind that a lot of the time the goal is not to quote the entire thing but instead to be able to actually get at the point of interest. If the point of interest is after the part cut off it involves a number of steps to quote it.

So you cannot just get rid of that feature?

Another thing that can happen is that the actual post, being at the bottom, under something big and quoted, is cut off.

Here's what I do:
Look at the post, highlight and CTRL+C the germaine bits.
Hit reply button
Highlight whatever carried over in the quoted area(within BBCode tags), hit backspace then CTRL+V.
Thus you get the easy reply tags with the info you wanted to discuss.
I would also ask people who are quoting a lengthy many-quoted post to take a moment and erase the first few quotes you are not replying to. It keeps the post lengths down and we don't get the whole 'X said, Y said, Z said' mess. It takes but a moment to do. You don't need to requote everything that's been said about the subject, it's all still on the page.

I sometimes have to spend more time fixing layout than writing what I want to write.
And sometimes I spend more time searching through cascading quotations or quotations of entire posts or quotations into which new material has inadvertently been typed in order to find actual post content.
I agree with Yae about having more quote length (and appreciate his responsibility and diligence in cleaning up his quotes and posts) but would like to add another request:
Please separate a "Reply" and a "Quote" option. Too often I see people who "Reply" and leave the entire, albeit truncated, quotation in their post simply to offer a "me too". It really gums up threads.
However, there are those who put in actual content of interest that gets lost or difficult to find because they're too lazy to clean up their posts. So yes, it's their fault if the content gets lost, but it's frustrating to spend so much time searching for the posts among screenfuls of grayed text.

I also hate it when the new content gets imbedded in a quote. Making quoting harder to mess up could only help, I think.

That's what my previous post looks when I copy and paste it. Problematic. which is which. where does the quote start. Plus, I'd have to make sure to put tags around everything, or things look really weird.

Bad, inattentive Rezdave. Bad bad bad.
You got my props from all the other times I've ready your posts on other threads, though.

It's no big deal. People keep misspelling that name all the time. I was KaeToss a weak or so ago.
I guess it comes with following the Cerulean Void: Even your name becomes unstable!
And it fits my last name, which is mispronounced all the time (which is very astounding really, since you should not be able to read it that way. Even German teachers read it like that, and THEY should know better)
