Blue Sun Corporation

Yes I know Firefly is a TV/FILM thing but this is to be a working conversation on what we think the BLUE SUN Corporation is:

  1. It looks to have a Monopoly on Space Colonization & Cargo transfer.
  2. I would hazard a guess that they are bigger than the Alliance Government.
  3. They probably take their orders from Earth.

I figured they were the r&d side of the alliance except being a corporate organisation they were trying to keep a pr side to avoid the unpleasant truth of what they were really doing.

I had the Idea that the Alliance went Millitary Tyrany to throw off further Colonization waves from Earth. They probably blocaded any further population comming from Earth System and 'nationalized' BLUESUN assets in the alliance system - I base this on the reality that Blue Sun infrastructure is every where yet the Blue Sun corporation is not.

Frankly that is the explanation for River's Hostility toward the BLUE SUN LOGO - when she slashes Jayne with the Knife he is in a BLUE SUN shirt, and when she rips the labels off the food during the poker game between the DOc, Book, and Jayne it is BlueSUN on the Canned Goods.

The Alliance had a plan to take out the BLUE SUN Corporation using River Tam.

I never noticed that correlation before. I'm going to have to watch that again.

I thought he slash on Jayne was "defensive," I never thought to pay attention to the shirt.

And the canned food, I thought was just random.

You may be on to something there.

Liberty's Edge

But don't we "know" that Earth is burnt out, used up?

Has this been refuted somewhere in canon, or is the Earth angle just a theory Dingo?

Never noticed that either, need to look out for it.

EDIT: Well according to the Firefly Wiki Dingo has that right.

Beat me to it. I was just about to link to the wiki for those interested.

Also, there is a real world Blue Sun company.

Cool. Wow, I never got it.

I'll be damned.

I just watched the scenes again, and the shirt is a Blue Sun shirt. And the Cracker packages do have clear Blue Sun logos.

The canned goods aren't as obvious. I didn't see anything to clearly label them as Blue Sun, but then again, I don't read Chinese so I can easily miss it.

Its more on the print on the ends of the cans - you dont get a good look at the labels but if you use your brain to map the art of the Logo on the labels over what is visible as a blur - it is pretty close to being BlueSun canned goods. :)

Plus its not the only time you get a look at the Bluesun Logo on foodstuffs.

I know they are a MegaCorp (to use a Shadowrun term) with their paws in many cookie jars, including many foodstuffs. (Side Note: Kinda remind me of the company I worked for at my last job, in an unsettling kind of way...)

But I'm a little disappointed the viewer has to extrapolate the canned goods are Blue Sun.

Yeah - they realy missed an opportunity to build on the firefly universe...What sort of Assets does BLUESUN Have? Where?

Cargo Containers full of Canned Goods, ShotGuns, and Colonists screams scary megacorp dumping stupid people in a bare bones Terraformed Colonization program and making off with the money.

I dont think Megacorp covers what Blue Sun is.

I estimated the cost of Colonization of the Moon and Mars at 20 billion-billion over 200 years for 20 million colonists. Blue Sun seems way bigger...
