Dead Reckoning, need a player

Gamer Connection

Greetings and salutations!

I just spent a couple of months laid up and while I was gone lost a player (Fighter).

The game is in Katheer, with a little a band of do-gooders hunting a pirate from whom they escaped, and a demon who they accidentally released while they fled across the desert.

I just recapped because of my absence.

And most of the character generation data is on Pharasma's page.

I'm looking for one player. It might be a good time for a paladin if anyone wants to try one out, although I prefer not to push anyone into playing something they don't want to.

I'm interested. I could do a Paladin of Iomeade so he would be easy to work in. I work something up and post it for you to check out and give the ya or nay to adding me to the group.

hey, I would like to join up if thats cool with you.

I am cool with playing a pally.
When I play them though, I usually play them as a "beacon of light in a dark world" rather than a tyrannical party alignment policeman, if thats alright with you.
Let me know if its cool to join and if it is,what you would like to see generally characterwise in your campaign; followed by how you would like to integrate the character with the party.
Say maybe the paladin is at the temple or "gulp" is controlled by the demon in which case you would npc him until the party whips the everliving hell out of me and frees me.
Anything you choose would be cool with me.

EDIT: whoops. you posted while I was typing, Mythril. Cool beans though. I will step back as a standby if thats cool with you both.

Both of you are good to go by me. It puts us at 9 players.

The game is very mellow pace.

We have on character who is of questionable morality (The Deciever), a Cailean Dudley-Do-Right monk who read too many hero stories, an ex-paladin of Iomedae who was killed and resurrected then embarked on a career as a mage in his second life, a Tian Xia fighter of few words and big sword (the player really is in China...), a Katheeran summoner, and a gnome desert druid.

2 paly's cool. I'm doing mine with a desert rider feel/archer type so it should work out good.

And I should add, welcome to the Paizo pbp boards.

Bringing a horse? Excellent. We've got a camel and a pony, too.

Dammit... always too late. And I've been watching the GC Threads for a week now too. :(

Hehe... sorry. I'll give you advanced warning on what comes after Z-Day.

I think I have the cruch all done. 32 point buy 2nd level using BETA. Let me know if I need to adjust anything. I will write up a background later, need sleep now. Gist of it is a tribesman who rides the desert to merit out Iomedes justice claiming jurisdicution anywhere under the sun.

Oops, level three. They leveled up in the desert.

And as for all the game rules... the posting frequency never worked out to one a day. It's prone to bursts. 20 one day, then three days with nothing.

Rohit Faris (Bueller?):

Spoiler:

SOME CAMPAIGN BACKGROUND:
Several days ago a Varisian half orc cleric of Iomedae by the name of Bhodan came staggering out of the desert with a band of kids in tow.

He told a story of a pirate, Gravid Book, who had kidnapped the children along the Varisian coast and claimed the ship had been dashed against the rocks by Gozreh in a freak storm.

Bohdan, some of the other adult slaves and the children survived and cut across the desert hoping to intercept Book in Katheer and end his career, for Book it seemed had also survived, but had taken the coastal route to Katheer.

But more interesting were the Goblins and the Temple they found carved into a mesa in the desert - or rather what secrets they unleashed. The goblins warned the slaves of a flying desert predator who laired in a lost temple of Aroden and has been menacing the rocky wasteland northwest of Katheer for years. To ensure their safe passage through the desert the survivors decided to enter the temple and slay the beast in close quarters, at its disadvantage, and this they did. Calebra it was called: an insane sphinx, possessed with an arcane parasite from the Maelstrom.

While searching the temple they also found a hidden chamber protected by a trap so lethal that they were unable to enter. Within, a liquid filled cylinder of copper and crystal capped with a green orb laid hidden for more than a century. A white haired evoker in the party, Pulsifer, shattered the crystal, releasing a small tattooed man, a halfling - who harbored within him a demon.

Slaying the foul mouthed, perverse halfling did nothing to ease the plight they had unleashed, as the demon immediately took control of the party thief, Ryor. The party salvaged the green orb from the prison cylinder. The Eye of Aroden, a local summoner among them called it. And unable to kill the vile bodiless monster, they allowed the demon to travel with them.

This is when Bhodan left the party, sneaking away while the demon was distracted in hopes of getting the children to safety. And with him all of Calebra's gold.

Since his arrival Bhodan has arranged travel for himself and the children until their ships leaves. In the meantime, they enjoy sanctuary in the Temple.

SOLUTIONS:
Hearing Bhodan's story, the Primarch dusted off some ancient tomes in which he has found references to the Eye of Aroden.

A paladin or cleric of Aroden is needed to use the Eye, so the historians write, but the only one known in these parts is said to be an insane elven hermit in the Zho Mountains. The Iomedeans call him Ka. He has become something of an oracle for the clerics of the Katheeran temple in recent decades. Perhaps it is time to consult with him again.

The gem itself is said to be powerful, but designed for catching a certain kind of demon and its brethren. Specifically, it was designed to hunt possessor demons, empower the hunters, restrain the demon, and seal its prison.

The alternative is to recruit the aid of the Satrap. But then the Satrap doesn't much like the Iomedeans, and the temple is small. Help could also be found in the Temple of Sarenrae, but that too poses its problems in the spreading of the Inheritor's word among the Kelshites. And after all, who better to hunt demons than the children of Iomedae.

So, evil calls.

The Deceiver scans the fresh meat. "Welcome to the Abattoir."

And if you don't want to paladin for Iomedae that's cool, we can probably still find an angle in for you using the spoilered info.

We have a paladin again? This just makes my life so much more complicated.

It's gonna be great.

And hey, MythrilDragon, I don't hang on Paladin code of ethics too much, I leave that up to you.

It wouldn't be fair because I love moral dilemma.

Don't worry. I'd be there to create the moral dilemma.

Seriously though, The Deceiver isn't evil, he's just amoral. The tendency to chaos though, that's gonna be some friction.

I just re adjusted to 3rd level and re-bought my gear with 2700 gp instead of 900. I like the Iomedea diety for this concept. Two of her domains are Justice and Sun and from their I created the concept of the errant rider, "knight" so to speak, of the desert tribes. Bringing justice under the sun. I plan to play him with a bit on the wilder side with a LAW of the desert in mind for his code of paladins. The sun is hot and the sands are harsh and the people must work together to survive, defy that and the suns justice will be put to you.

Code of the Desert, I like that. Reminds me very much of Dune. We shall get along very well I think, effendi.

He says that to everyone.

Kruelaid wrote:

No I don't. Book and I don't get along.

If everything is OK with the character where and when can I start posting?

All ok to me.

I've been waiting for Hoktsu and Domo to show up. They posted a 'go' after I came back but I haven't seen them since.

I guess we should just jump in though.

Give me a few hours, I'm on my way to work.

Here's what will happen:

Spoiler:
Bhodan is at the temple waiting for them (he is a PC come NPC) and he'll introduce you to the party.

Rohit would already know then, that Pulsifer, Cordoba (the alias of The Deciever), and Jon Qiang were Bhodan's original companions from the slave hold of Gravid Book. Ryor and Syd were also in the slave hold with Bhodan, but are no longer with the group.

Bhodan also spoke of Aref, who helped them through the desert, and it was Aref who was searching for the Eye of Aroden in the first place. Aref had no knowledge of the demon. He is a summoner and references to the Eye had appeared in his texts.

So just give me a few hours and I'll kick everyone into the temple, or to the temple gates, and we can get this show on the road.

You're on Mythrildragon.

-Kruelaid

hey. I got a pally ready. as well as a ranger and a cleric.
which would you guys like to have?

we just recruited a paladin...

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Dammit again...

Kruelaid, I appreciate the awesome offer you have made to allow me on your PBP, especially as it was given when mythrildragon already got the vacant slot.
I am, however, kind of stuck on ideas, and it looks like flash has something he is really looking to go with.
I am going to bow out, if thats alright, and let Flash have this one.
I will watch the PBP game as you play it out and see how its done.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Hey SRH... seriously, I'm only mucking around with Kruel.
The spot is definately yours if you want it. You were in first and I don't want to take your rightfuly earned spot from you. PbPs can be hard to get into as they tend to fill up really quickly, so don't let me stand in your way of a place in a good one.

I appreciate it, Flash.
But everything I cobbled together seems rather flat to me.
Its cool with me. I will watch your guys PBP and learn how its done.
BTW, your character concepts are pretty cool.
Although, I never really got the whole druid thing.
I like the class and all, its just as a concept and class, it confuses me.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Wow, thanks. Now you gotta tell me which Concept you want me to use Kruel (if you're finished reading them that is, it was a looong list). :)

I'm the same. I never really got Druids. The animal companion I could see, but I never really understood why they had the Wildshape ability.
I've created exactly one Druid in the past and he was for 2e. I created him as part of an Adventuring Company my friend and I created, but I never actually played him.
The article in Dragon about the Plant Companions just hit me as something I really liked (and I must admit I thought back to an earlier issue of Dungeon and the Mushroomlike Campestris as an influence in this) and it made me want to play a Druid just to use it.

We have a desert druid, you can find him here.

Don't let that stop you, though.

We have:
a Varisian evoker, former paladin of Iomedae but resurrected a little too late.
a conjurer and Katheeran local
a cleric/rogue of Pharasma and would be assassin lately of Rippleport
a Clark Kent/Bedouin paladin of Iomedae
a fast talking druid of the shifting sands, sometime resident of Katheer
a monk or Irori with Cailean tendencies, sometime resident of Katheer
a power attacking fighter born of Tian Xia, on a great journey

Well you're pretty much covered on all fronts except maybe a little light on the healing, but I'm not really interested in a healer at the moment (although I still wouldn't rule it out if that's what you think we need).

How about an Osiriani Bleachling Gnome Fighter/Companion of the Dead? Specialises in the Osiriani Khopesh.
Is there anything from my Concept list that you wouldn't be comfortable with me using to create the Character? There are a lot of things from Dragon Magazine I just want to make sure are OK to use, including the actual Companion of the Dead PrC (from Dragon #315).
Not sure exactly what I may or may not use yet, just want to cross off anything you don't like beforehand.

Can I just ask one thing about Character Creation: You say that it is 32pt buy for Ability Scores, but PFRPG only goes up to 25. Are we using 3.5 rules or PFRPG rules? If PFRPG, is this a mistake/haven't changed it since swapping from 3.5 or have you given us extra points to play with?

Cheers

Liberty's Edge

I was going to suggest that that PrC is pretty specific to Taladas, and I’m not sure that it would fit with a Golarion gnome … but actually, an Osiriani bleachling gnome fits that PrC (with minor flavour tweaks) really well. IMO. Which counts for nothing since I am not the DM nor even a player in this game…

Ahh, but it's an opinion that I greatly respect...

I don't know. I haven't read Character creation rules since Alpha. Let's ask the guys who are playing.

Without taking into consideration a human stat bonus, because I don't know where they put it:

Codoba adds up to 29 pts PFRPG beta.
Rohit adds up to 38 (+2 on dex and he's 32 PFRPG even)
Pulsifer is at 27
Jon is at 24 and wants some from Rohit
Aref is 29
Domo is 31
Hoktsu is a gnome... tap tap... at 29

So assuming I knew what I was doing when I wrote the character creation rules (I didn't-I'm pretty sure I meant 3.5 32 point buy), why is everyone so low.

Cordoba added to DEX so he's 24 point PFRPG.

So thereabouts. I think PFRPG Epic Fantasy level (the highest) is 25 points, right?

Jon needs to pick up his racial points.

PF starts you at 10 and lets you sell down to 7.
3.5 starts you at 8 and no selling down.
both cost double points above 14.
that might be cause of it.

Edit: also maybe they are not adding their racial bonus after buying stats. ie instead of buying(3.5 way) from 8 to 14 paying 6 points and then adding racial bonus taking them to 16, they are instead adding racial bonus first, which will start them at 10, costing them more to reach 16. at least two points are lost that way, if not more.

If 25, then I still have 1 point to assign.

Thanks dude. I'm at work. I don't have the rules handy.

Cool, so PFRPG 25pt buy .

Gotcha.

Assuming you say yeah to everything on my Concepts List, I'll have my Bleachling Companion of the Dead done up by tomorrow (maybe Friday, depends how busy I get).

Welcome aboard, flash. :D

Thankee sir.

I don't own Dragon 315, but as long as you're being straight up about everything that's cool.

We had a Gnome Necromancer when we started the game and he bailed because we posted too much. Things are a little different speed wise these days.

Here he is: [http://paizo.com/people/NeriusDaergal]Nerius the Necromancer[/url]

He marched north toward Taldor when they headed south.

No problem. The PrC is actually made for Taladas in Dragonlance, but as Moth said, it fits the build I wanna make.

I'll put up anything I use from Dragon Mags in my Character's Profile and if there's anything you don't like I can change it.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

I thought it a bit high in the stats but I read it as a 32 point by for Pathfinder. In reading the posts were talking about demons and third level characters so I assumed you wanted the PC's to have a superior stat boost so I didn't question the high stats. The rules are a guideling and DMS are free to throw 'em out and adjust them to fit thier game after all. I'll re-buy the stats at a 25 point buy then no harm no foul.
