I really like the simplicity of the Pathfinder XP and CR calculations. However, I'm unclear on how many encounters to actually throw at a party in a single game session. If memory serves, in 3.5 a party can handle 4 or so encounters equal to their average party level before they have to stop to rest. With the enhanced characters created with the PFRPG, is the 4-encounter guideline still practical?
Consider my PCs, who are currently an APL 4 party (six 3rd level characters). Looking at Table 12-1 (PFRPG 291), how many "Easy", "Average", "Challenging", "Hard", and "Epic" encounters can I throw at them in a single game session?

I would still expect to throw 4 normal encounters at them a day (4 EL's or 2 EL+2's or 1 EL+4, etc.). Maybe with the buffs the base classes received, you can give them one more for 5.
Of course, a single EL+4 a day might not be practical, but it really depends on how effective the party is with their resources.

I'm see'ing 4-5 encounters as well. But I think my party is a little cautious. One of things that lets them keep going a little long is the channel positive feature. Another is the Conjurer (Wizard) with Precise / Point Blank Shot and his at-will Acid Dart. He can be a little more picky with his damage spells, and thus not be 'gassed' as early.
