Most wizards chose one school of magic over all others. Due
to their devotion, they gain a number of abilities based on the
school of magic chosen. In addition, each school grants the
specialist wizard a bonus ability so long as he did not prepare
any spells of his opposition schools that day. Wizards without
a favored school gain access to the universal school and do not
gain a specialist bonus ability.

Arcane schools grant one ability at 1st level, 8th level, and
20th level, as noted in their description. Unless otherwise
noted, these abilities are activated by using a standard action.
The wizard’s level is used when determining the caster level
of these effects. The DC for any save is equal to 10 + the spell’s
level + the caster’s Charisma modifier. Arcane school powers
that mimic spells are spell-like abilities, while the others are
supernatural.

So. I have read this about 12 times over now and I still can not determine the meaning here. Perhaps someone can help me out, or point out where it is I'm being a noob or some such. But to me this section seems particularly vague.

The question is, say a wizard picks the example school as his specialized school. He choose example1a and example2b as his prohibited schools. He prepares no spells from his prohibited schools and is 1st level. Does he gain the 1st level power from each school except his prohibited schools or only the 1st level power listed in his specialized school.

The explanation quoted above seems ambiguous to me. Perhaps a second pair of eyes could show me where it specifies the answer to my question.

Note the bolded sentence in the text above that I emphasized. You gain the powers from your chosen school, or from the universalist school if you chose note to specialize.

Thanks.

They say the 13th read is the definitive one.

I hope people read my novel thirteen times... :)

It will give them something to do while they await the sequel. Trilogy, really, so they can read the 2nd book thirteen times too.
