The Factions demeanors and goals.

Pathfinder Society

Sovereign Court

Andoran
Cheliax
Osirion
Qadira
Taldor

I am looking for a quick explanation of the factions motives and goals and general demeanor. If someone has a background in Vampire the masquerade Id kinda like to see how the factions equate to clans. Particularly which faction is most like the Ventrue.

very quick explanation

Andoran: Freedom & Democracy for all
Cheliax: Hell on Earth
Osirion: Re establish the lost power of their Pahraon
Qadira: Between incrieasing sales and conquering land
Taldor: Bring back their decadent Empire

Ventrue? Taldor... decadent medieval nobles squandering for who is the king... master intriguers

I like Ventrue... but in this case it would be that...

Sovereign Court

Excellent, I chose the crown symbol because it seemed the closest visually, and it worked out.

Andoran = Discordian Society
Cheliax = Servants of Cthulhu
Osirion = UFOs
Qadira = Gnomes of Zurich
Taldor = Bavarian Illuminati

(O.K., maybe the mapping isn't quite perfect. :-P)

Maybe not perfect, but very nice! I'd never thought of it in those terms, and you got an honest-to-goodness "laugh out loud" from me.

One of the players around here has said that he gained a lot of insight into the factions by stringing together the missions they were giving their agents. I haven't bothered to look, yet, myself.

Has anyone else tried this and gotten coherent results?

I don't know VtM at all, but here are the overviews I give to new players when I run scenarios at local gamedays.

Andoran - Spread freedom and democracy throughout the world
Cheliax - Bring order to the masses, under your boot-heel if necessary
Osirion - Be a "sleeping giant" no one suspects, sitting on the power of the past while your enemies tear themselves apart
Qadira - Gain power through trade, taxation, and control of resources
Taldor - Use political machinations, subterfuge and underhanded dealings to ensure your fallen empire regains its former glory

Sovereign Court

What would be the top 2 classes played by each faction?

You can play anything with any of the factions, but the faction feats and gear you get access to, not to mention flavor, lean certain directions. My take on it is:

Andoran - Ranger, Paladin
Cheliax - Wizard, Fighter
Osirion - Wizard, Monk
Qadira - Fighter, Rogue
Taldor - Bard, Rogue

You can, of course, be a cleric from any one of them, or anything from any one of them for that matter.

Have you read the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play? It's got a lot of info about the different factions and what typical members of each are like. And remember, your character's motivations may be in line with a faction different from your homeland or even archetype.

In the VtM DM screen it had something kinda similar to this, please expound if you think it will add insight.

Andoran –
Top classes: Ranger, Paladin
Demeanor/goals: Spread freedom and democracy throughout the world.
Weakness/Strength:

Cheliax –

Bard and Rogue are OK for Taldor...but just look at the cover illustration of the Pf Companion, Echoes of Glory...

I would list the factions by stat-boosting item rather than by class:

Andoran: #1 - Dex, #2 - Cha
Cheliax: #1 - Wis, #2 - Int
Osirion: #1 - Str, #2 - Int
Qadira: #1 - Con, #2 - Str
Taldor: #1 - Cha, #2 - Dex

Dark Archive

Andoran - Brujah / Caitiff / Ventrue Antitribu
Cheliax - Lasombra / Tzimisce / Baali
Osirion - Nosferatu / True Brujah / Giovanni
Qadira - Toreador / Followers of Set (Osirion isn't as fitting as one would think...) Old Clan Tzimisce
Taldor - Ventrue / Lasombra / Giovanni

Andoran = Gangrel

Cheliax = Tremere
Osirion = Followers of Set (there is always place)
Quadira = Assamite
Taldor = Toreador (Taldor is about hedonism too)

Interesting take. I agree on most of all. And using clans instead of bloodlines. I just don't think that Osirion = Followers of Set, even if thematically it would seem very appropriate. I picture them more like Assamite, if my options weren't valid. A clan that was great, then hindered and waiting patiently for their chance to strike back.

actually i think the setites but maybe not focused on set would be quitea ctive in Osirion and ould have their hand in pushing away the assamites of Quadira when they were in power of the satrap :P

That way, indeed, my mind is reeling (relatively new to Pathfinder) with these mixed references. And, as much as I consider myself a Lasombra, I have to admit there should be a small Malkavian-like faction. Just for kicks.

I agree completely. The way I created my character was to choose a class first and then choose the faction with the best feats and stat-boosting items for said class.

As a Rogue, I chose to play an Andoran Rogue. The 2 other Andorans in my group play another Rogue and a Paladin.

I first considered playing a Bard, and the faction would undoubtedly have been Taldor. In fact the one Bard in my group is from Taldor.

Thus it would be interesting to check what are the key stats for each class and then assign the faction that boost them. I wonder what the result would be.
