Wow, something of an ass-backward way to go about a character concept, ain't it?
Any thoughts on what you wish to multi-class into? I mean, with the character concept of "I use a great sword", there's just so much to move on to!
This just begs for a level of Rogue (sneak attack!!!)...and possibly barbarian (gotta get that extra 10' movement!!!)...
How about a PRC?

So im a munchkin because I optimize my characters so they are effective in and out of combat?
So cause I have an idea for an inquisitor of evil and add pious templar for my left over levels im a munchkin I heavily disagree
In theory yes. Trying to optimize your character is being a munchkin by my definition. How would you define being a munchkin though if it isn't that?
That being beside the point. To your question in Forgotten Realms I think Torm uses a great sword. I am unsure what setting you are playing in and what gods you have to pick from though.
Yeah Golarion
Oh well I was still typing my response when you posted this. I know nothing of Golarion, sorry can't help then.
Ok went looking. From what I read there isn't one in Golarion, the closest you get is Shelyn who uses a Glaive but is NG, I think still a fine choice for a paladin but not a great sword.

Im looking for a Paladin God that uses a great sword I want to have Weapon Focus in my gods weapon (Pious Templar) and I want it to be a great sword is there anything out there?
use Iomedae, she is goddess of Justice, has lots of Paladins.. being a palading herself...
her main weapon is the longsword... but if justice be done... i doubt she would care if its a longsword ot a bigger version :P
i think the god who uses the greatsword is Gorum, the god of war, but he is CN

Iomedae might not care but he will, as a Pious Templar he can only specialize in the weapon of choice of his diety.

Joey Virtue wrote:Well I disagree with you
I would also bet you dont have many books from 3.5 besides the core stuff cause you think multiclassing and prestige classes are bad for the game
You disagree? Awww...come on....we need a love-fest here...I'm sure lillith will provide cookies...
And wow, is your perception off...I happen to have been playing for roughly the last twenty eight years...and yes, I do have a vast array of splatbooks...that unfortunately I cannot get my money or life back from reading them....
Hey bud, keep on munch...err...OPTIMIZIN yer toon!!!!
ROCKIN!!!
I don't blame him for wanting to make a paladin from the picture he is basing his on. It is one cool picture. But well I don't like the shadowbane prestige classes because they encourage dipping into rogue and then going to the class you really want to play, and I dislike encouraging using multiclassing to dip in deep enough to only take key class features.

The great sword was more the picture from Complete Adventurer it looks really cool
I like two handed weapons with my combat characters and swords are easier to come by in most games
The only two-handed favored weapon I can find among LG, LN, and NG gods in Golarion is the greataxe. It is the favored weapon of Angradd (LG), the dwarven god of war and fire.
EDIT: Uh, and Shelyn. With her glaive.

well still of the main gods only Gorum has a Greatsword as his main weapon
LG
Erastil: Longbow
Iomedae: Longsword
Torag: Warhmamer
NG:
Sarenrae: Scimitar
Sheylin: Glaive
LN:
Abadar: light crossbow
Irori: Unarmed Strike
so... that leaves only one option open...
I haven't read the Pious Templar, so its his choise... I don't remember the chosen of weaponsof the Lesser Gods

To answer your actual question, there appear to be two dieties in Golarion that use the Greatsword ...
Gorum, who is Chaotic Neutral, and Zursvaater, who is Lawful Evil.

Could go for rogue to blackguard to pious templar....

Iomedae fits the best for the classic paladin values and there's no reason for a paladin to use the same weapon as their god uses.
I would say Sarenrae is the next closest to portraying paladin values and might also be a good choice.
Focus on the pious templar goal though and there is. This isn't about concepts unfortunately it's about metagaming.

I realize that this isn't exactly what you want either, but you could go with Iomedae and use the longsword two-handed. You don't get the higher damage die, but you still get the other benefits of 2H if you have a high strength or whatever.
Or, you could carry a shield and use it when fighting more defensively, and drop the shield and use longsword in both hands when you need the increased damage output. My PFS character does that with a battle axe.
And my final option... get a size large longsword and use it two-handed. This does, though stray into the potential area of being cheesy optimization. I'd say though, if JJ can do it when writing up Amiri, well you can make it work if you want to. Plus, frankly, I'm not at all convinced that the benefits outweigh the costs. So it's more stretching to get the image than to optimize.

All over the "character concept" of "I want a Great Sword!"
There is nothing wrong with saying : My image of this paladin has him wielding a great sword, wearing heavy plate armor, and dealing out justice to evil doers.
That is not by itself munkinism. It's just a visual that helps keep in mind what he wants his guy to appear like. So don't ride him for it, and saying once he's being whatever is ok, posting repeatably to attack him isn't very nice.

If you'd read anything this guy has to say, you'd realize you're giving him entirely too much credit....
No excuse for being a jerk. Please don't engage in this sort of thing. I understand you disagree with the questioner about munchkinism, but if you want to talk about that, do it in a separate thread. No need to derail this one.

I've read it all. I prefer to think the best of everyone I meet on line or in real life. Maybe his idea is a little well non-rp related, no reason I can't suggest an RP way of looking at his concept, it might take hold and he might decide it is more fun to build a character instead of a stat sheet.
The idea of a Shadowbane Inquisitor using a Greatsword is rather cool I think. Just work on why he is doing it, and how.

The very first response I put on here was commenting on his deciding factor for choosing a god his Paladin would revere be that of what weapon the god uses.
I'm sorry, this is just monumentally lacking in character concept, and should be considered a slap in the face to the contributors that created the Gods for Golarion.

I can get you a little closer to your munchkin dreams.
Be a paladin dedicated to the Empyreal Lord Ragathiel. He is the patron of valour, Lawful Good and his areas of concern arechivalry, duty and vengeance. His domains are Destruction, Good, Law and Nobility and...
...I am such a tease...
...
...his favoured weapon is Bastard Sword, close enough.
and Empyreal Lords are cool.
Now, go buy the Campaign Setting.

Joey Virtue...
I'd like to challenge you to something.
I'd like to challenge you to read through the Gods (Gods & Magic, for sale HERE!!!), and find one that would be interesting to be a paladin for. Find something particular about the deity and their laws/views that inspires you, and create a character around that.
Somewhere, deep down inside, I think you'll have more fun playing the resulting character.

Yeah, that last line was just me dancing around going; "Hey, everybody, look at me! I remembered something!"
I took a peak in Elves of Galorian, but nothing helpful there.
I can't remember if we know what Apsu's fans wield?
