Liberty's Edge

I have nothing specific to say other than I have started using the PFRPG rules to run Savage Tide in the last 6 weeks.

I have two old hands at D&D (from 1st ed. AD&D era) and they find it similar to 3.5E but better. Small changes such as the skill system really changes very little mechanic wise, but makes a huge impact on ease of character creation. One of the new players is a rogue, I was pleased that she didn't have 44 skill points now to spend on skills she wasn't sure of what they did. OK she had 11 points, but as you can't put more than 1 point in a skill (at 1st level) and your class skills make sense to fill first it wasn't that much of a mission. The other new player took Craft Armour/Weapons and is using it actually - first in my games at least. Channel energy, classic - we had the fighter down on hp's yelling "heal, heal" and the cleric then doing channel energy [ok she (and I) didn't exactly know what it did, she does now]. The fighter AND the bad guys get a heal. Next the fight is screaming "ME! ONLY ME!".

The new players to "D&D" swore they would hate it. I will say we started with another nameless version of "D&D" that is very popular at the moment and my new players weren't that keen to continue playing. However we swapped to PFRPG beta, threw anyway the "battle grid"(TM) and all is well with the world of roleplaying! I will say a great game to those new to "D&D" not only those of an older vintage.

The more I read and use the PFRPG beta the more I seem to find I like as a DM, things just make sense. Solutions for problems that don't involve throwing the baby out with the bath water is what I see. My interest in "D&D" was flagging something fierce and I had players luke warm about the game (every 2 weeks). Now I'm looking forward to the game and my players are suggesting we play once a week. Makes a DM feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Proof is in the eating they say, and pfRPG taste pretty darn good.

Paizo, well done and thanks,
Stefan.

This has been my experience as well. Great job Paizo!
