[Houserule Ideas] Evocation Feats

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Cutting Torch
Prerequisite:
Energy Ray School Power.
You can concentrate fire from your Energy Ray in a narrow beam.
Benefits: Using a standard action, you can use your Energy Ray as a cutting torch that does 1 point of damage per round, ignoring a material's Hardness. Cutting Torch can only be used on targets with a maximum thickness of 1 inch per 4 caster levels. Targets imbued with Fire Resistance are effectively immune.
Special: You can take this feat as a Wizard bonus feat.

Benchmarked against: Wall of Stone/Iron.
While an Evoker may cut an entrance through a Wall of Stone spell, he isn't likely to do the same through the walls of Helm's Deep

Laser
Prerequisite:
Cutting Torch, Wizard level 11+.
You really know how to "cut to the chase".
Benefits: As Cutting Torch, but damage becomes 1 point of damage +1 for each 2 caster levels you possess. While Fire Resistance doesn't cancel a laser's effectivity, such resistance must be overcome first in order to do any damage (which means targets with a Fire Resistance of 11+ might still be de-facto immune unless your game goes above level 20).
Special: You can take this feat as a Wizard bonus feat.

Benchmarked Against: Disintegrate (PF's version).
At caster level 12, Laser does 6 points of damage per round, whereas Pathfinder's version of Disintegrate does 24-144 damage per attack action.

Insert (Evocation) flames after the dotted line
...............................................

No flames from me, both of these look like valid feats to me. The first seems a bit Jedi like, it made me remember the scene from Star Wars Episode 1 where Qui Gon (sp) is cutting through the blast doors. I would allow these in my game.

The names aren't very.... evocative.
