can a bard take 20 on perform?
is there a time frame for how long a bard can perform and hold the audiences attention? Will he need to make skill checks periodically?
See the bard and the rogue devised a scheme where the bard shows up at Scarnetti manor and charms his way in and offers to perform in exchange for a meal. Then during his performance the rogue sneaks in the upper floor and attempts a burglary. But how difficult should the bards skill checks be?
btw
The rogue is after a mastercrafted composite longbow +1 in a fancy case along with silver tipped arrows for lycanthrope hunting.

You can only take 20 when you can spend 20 times the normal time performing and re-performing an action, and it does not have consequences for failure.
If you mean something like taking 20 to Fascinate or something (the DC of which is based on bard level & charisma now by the way), you could theoretically do it - if you had 20 bardic performances per day, and a very willing and patient audience.
You *can* take 10 in more circumstances - DM prerogative a bit on that (generally you can't take 10 in "stressful" circumstances).

Yes. It's called "studio record"
With a live audience? Only if he is shielded against airborne fruit and vegetables. And mugs. And tables. And halflings.
Take 20 basically means you make your way up from 1 to 20. So he'd start the same song over and over again. You'll need a pretty supportive audience for that.

The rules don't say. It's up to the GM. I usually let them roll once and set that as his personal form for the day.
