Vital Strike question

Question on this feat.

The way it's worded, the doubling of damage specifically states Strength, weapon properties (such as flaming), and precision damage (such as sneak attack) being exempt. Does this mean that Weapon Specialization, the class bonus given by the Ranger/Fighter, the basic weapon enhancement bonus (the +1 part), and similar, will continue to get doubled?

Actually, as I read Vital Strike and Improved Vital Strike, ONLY the base damage dice of the weapon itself are doubled - all else remains the same.

Check out the various debates on the beta testing threads about it. :)

I concur.

I don't think the text in the RAW is as clear as it should be, but the intent seems to be rolling 2x the damage dice instead of rolling the normal damage dice, with all other modifiers remaining the same.

Since the feat specifically mentions that the additional dice are not multiplied on a crit, they definately should be additional dice rolled, and written in stat blocks as additional dice, similar to extra dice from a flaming or bane weapon.

So a greatsword attack with vital strike should look like:

2d6+10+2d6

instead of:

4d6+10

Or, better yet:

[2d6+10(19-20 x2)] +2d6

Or just 6d6+10 on a confirmed crit or 4d6+10 otherwise.
