Recruiting Thread

Welcome to the thread, dathom. How is Pavo's sheet coming?

Our second player is Xaaon of Xen'Drik as Marra, a human fighter.

Two down, three to go. :)

I will work on her tonight.

That background worked out pretty well, definitely a lot going on with her to want revenge on Lamm.

Our third player is Dreamweaver, as Sorin the halfling rogue. Welcome!

To recap:

1. dathom as Pavo Alazario, human sorcerer (arcane bloodline)
2. Xaaon of Xen'Drik as Marrala the Lost, human fighter
3. Dreamweaver as Sorin, halfling rogue
4. ?
5. ?

Male Halfling Rogue 2

I will build out Sorin tonight.

As for Pavo, I just have to decide on one feat and to sort out his equipment, then he should be ready to go. I decided to go with the familiar for his Arcane bond. Since I took the Missing Sibling trait, I plan on making him Party face, though at first his arcane knowledge will have been a priority since he just recently started on his search for Gaedren Lamm. For gold, should we take the average or roll for it?

Hey all,

I'm looking for five players who want to get in on a Curse of the Crimson Throne AP play by post. I know there are already a lot of games running this AP, but I'm hoping there are still some folks out there who'd like to give this a spin.

I'm seeking a balanced party of first level PCs, with no evil alignments please. We'll use a 20 point ability score buy, with max hp and gold to get you started. It'll be a fun one, I promise. :)

Who's on board?

Max HP/Gold, per Malvoison's initial post =)

I have expanded Marra's background as well...it's really sad...

Max gold is right, thanks Xaaon.

Just max health or are any of the side bar options ok (2x max, racial modifier ect.)

Dreamweaver wrote:

None of that, Dream. Just max hit die plus CON modifier. (And, I guess, another +1 for favored class if applicable and chosen).

All, please welcome robin and Nasserath as our fourth and fifth players. This completes our play group. Yay!

Now, before we settle in too much, let's talk about party balance for a moment. I bring it up simply because Nasserath and robin have both submitted backgrounds for clerics (granted one of Abadar and one of Erastil so pretty different clerics, presumably). Still, if anyone thinks this might create a balance problem, I'd be okay with one of you changing to a different class. If everybody's good as it stands, that's fine too. I just wanted to solicit feedback, so everyone's opinion is welcome on this matter.

Thanks, carry on.

robin, I do have one question...did you intentionally give your cleric the same surname (Jeggare) as the river that runs next to Korvosa?

If that's not by design, could you maybe change it just to help your poor DM not get too confused?

If anyone is looking for the Pathfinder Traits web enhancement, it's linked under the 'My Downloads' section of your account.

Alternatively, you could check out pfogc.com, which is a handy reference for open content PFRPG rules if you don't have your Beta PDF handy.

Jeggare is also a Noble house name I do believe.

well thats no good... so what do we have then? rather what do we need... i am willing to change but will for obvious reasons need another day or 2 to complete a new sheet and backstory

Nasserath wrote:

As it stands right now...

1. dathom as Pavo Alazario, human sorcerer (arcane bloodline)
2. Xaaon of Xen'Drik as Marrala the Lost, human fighter
3. Dreamweaver as Sorin, halfling rogue
4. robin as Clandru Jeggare, human cleric of Abadar
5. Nasserath as Dorran Kelvar, human cleric of Erastil

...subject to change if desired, though.

Dreamweaver wrote:

That's quite true, but I didn't get much of a 'noble' vibe from the character's background. So, I just thought I'd ask for clarification.

i will change to a Ranger. can have character background done by tomorrow maybe thursday (long day of work tomorrow)

I think 2 clerics is a great balance...

Much better than no cleric...a bard would be OK tho.

Pathfinder Campaign stuff is OK for this right? because I took the Osirian Khopesh as an exotic weapon.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

I think I am ready.

Xaaon, the Khopesh is fine with me.

Dreamweaver, I will check over Sorin later on today and let you know how he looks.

To everyone else, please let me know when your character sheets are completely done, so I can review them.

Nasserath, I want to mention that you should only change your character to a ranger if you want to. Please don't feel pressured to do so. As Xaaon mentioned, having more than one cleric is not necessarily a bad thing.

You could always stick to cleric at first level and multiclass later into another class, like ranger, if you want.

Male Human Rogue 4 AC:18 T:14 FF:14 / HP:16 / Init:+4 / F:+2 R:+8 W:+2 / CMD:19

So just an update. I wasn't able to finish the character sheet today, but should have Pavo's equipment figured out by tomorrow at the latest. After the equiopment is figured out, the sheet will be ready for DM perusal.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

Updated my character, forgot my +1 AC for size

Marrala is mechanically done...I think...

I just need to buy gear now, I had to make sure the khopesh was OK before I proceeded, as I might have changed feats, since the next weapon woulda been that big hammer!

Okay, Dreamweaver, here's what I see about Sorin.

1. Shingle Runner feat has a prereq feat (Acrobatic) that isn't met, so he isn't elgible for that.

2. His attacks all need a +1 modifier for size addded

3. His base attack bonus should be +0

4. You listed Linguistics and Use Magic Device under his skills, but those can't be used untrained.

5. I figured his saves as FORT +1 REF +8 WILL +2

So, please go ahead and have a look at these items and see if you agree or disagree.

its cool... i have a really good idea for a human two weapon ranger and already got the premise for the background gonna go with the Drug Addict-Personal Addiction trait... going back to work will post story when i get home

Male Halfling Rogue 2

All fixed, I just switched Shingle Runner with Acrobatic.

Xaaon, I went over Marra and I see a few things to take a look at.

1. What's her alignment?

2. It looks to me like you used only 18 points to assign her ability scores. Don't forget that humans get a +2 bonus in the ability score of your choice.

3. I calculate her Flat-footed AC as 16

4. She can have one bonus language known

5. It looks like you have one extra skill rank assigned (six, even though at the top you correctly stated she should have five)

Please have a look. Thanks!

Okay, Nass. That works fine for me, I just wanted to be sure you weren't feeling coerced into a change. :)

Sorin wrote:

Looks really good now, Dream. I just think you forgot to take Sorin's Climb skill back down to +6, after dropping Shingle Runner.

Make that one small fix, and he's ready to start. :)

Malvoisin wrote:

1. What's her alignment?

Lawful Neutral...fixed...because of her strong leaning toward delivering justice.

Malvoisin wrote:

I had added the +2 I forgot to give myself the extra points for the 9 CHA. FIXED increased STR to 17

Malvoisin wrote:
3. I calculate her Flat-footed AC as 16...

corrected...shields never make sense to me as giving AC when flat footed.

Malvoisin wrote:
4. She can have one bonus language known.

Added goblinoid, not sure if I'll use it in this adventure or not, but we shall see.

Malvoisin wrote:

Fixed, removed the rank of sense motive.

dathom, I know Pavo's equipment isn't finalized yet, but I wanted to have a look at his mechanics now, since I had the time.

Everything looks good for him for the most part. I do, however, have trouble getting all of his skill totals to work out.

Specifically, Diplomacy and Intimidate appear to have an extra +2 that I can't account for.

Also... Heal, Perception and Sense Motive all look like they should total +0 to me.

Take another look at that, if you would, and let me know what you see.

Xaaon, Marrala looks almost ready. The only real quibble I have now is that I think her skills that get affected by an armor class penalty aren't quite right. The total ACP should be -4 (-8 for Swim) because of the armor and shield. Stealth and Climb should also be included for the penalty.

Malvoisin wrote:

I didn't add those bonuses into the base skill, that's why they're blue, I'll adjust them as the situation warrants. And if I'm swimming I won't be having a shield with me anyway.

Also I think they eliminated the double armor check penalty for swim. I can't find it on PFOGC and I remember noticing that someone commented on that during playtest.

Marrala the Lost wrote:

Works for me! She's ready to start, then.

OK Marra is ready to go...

Encumbrance calculated, Medium Load until she drops her back pack, then she's at Light Load.

Marrala is currently at an inn, sleeping after a hot bath...

Yeah I wasn't real sure about that because in the Acrobatic feat the description at the top says it improves, balance jumping and climbing and the the benefits section acrobatics and flying which didn't make much sense to me. It's your call but it makes more sense to impact Acrobatics and Climbing instead of Acrobatics and Fly.

Scarab Sages

Aerial acrobatics...Have you seen the base jumpers using the wing suits? They're falling at 100 mph and doing flips and stuff!!!

Aerial acrobatics...f'sure!

Male Chelaxian Cleric 1

i must admit i just looked at the Pathfinder Chonicle Setting to find a common surname for a chelaxian subrace . No problem with changing it

Unhappily, work is a bit hectic at the moment so I'll only be able to work on Clandru this week end (don't woory , I'll still be able to post at least once daily )
I have several questions
Can I assume the non campaign traits are the same released in the second darkness player handbook or could someone post a link to them ?

Also in any campaign there are several useful roles
* Diplomat
* Information gatherer
* Sage one ( the one who has knowledge )
* Crafter of miscellaneous
* Crafter of weapons/armor
If necessary , I can take the role of diplomat/information gatherer/Crafter of miscellaneous but would any of this role interest my fellow adventurers ?

Male Human Ranger Level 1

ok heres the new Dorran kelvar backstory

Spoiler:
Dorran Kelvar was a street rat growing up. Orphaned at the age of 7 he was left to fend for himself. For 3 years he scrapped by until he met a man named Gaedren who offered something that would improve the boys well being. Dorran accepted and that very night tried shiver for the first time. He loved it. The dreams, the sensations, all of it. For 5 years Dorran's all consuming passion was the drug. He had lied, cheated, stolen and even killed to get it. Eventually it caught up to the teenager and Dorran had an overdose that almost ended his life had it not been for a female druid that saved him. She then offered Dorran any help he might have needed but with his pride hurt the young man instead took off without even thanking the young woman.

Dorran left the city, sending himself into exile. Another 5 years went by and Dorran grew into a man and his hatred for Gaedren grew with him. His time alone had taught him the value of survival and patience. It was time to return to the city. Upon his return Dorran saw a hippogriff with a rider zip past. Enthralled Dorran asked around and learn that he saw a Sable Company Marine and thought to himself thats it...thats what I want to do with my life and maybe with some luck I could catch Gaedren in the process. So he joined the ranks at the Endrin Military Academy. That was 2 years ago and Dorran is well on his way to becoming a marine and finding the man responsible for almost ending his life.

As of now, Pavo is headed towards a more diplomat, Info Gatherer type of sorcerer since Gather Info has been taken over by Diplomacy and his trait grantes that as a class skill. He is in search of his sister and over the past couple months has gotten much practice in the art of getting on people's good sides to find out what he needs to know. No worries though, he will know how to bring the arcane hurting when the time comes but I figured why waste a 17 Charisma? ;)

Yeah, they reprinted the campaign traits from second darkness.

We could always use those types of characters,

My character has diplomacy, but not a great CHA bonus to back it up. (though I do get a +1 trait bonus)

Of course if you're going to go the route of the magic crafter, that's always welcome as well...I would take craft Alchemy, but that silly "magic-user" requirement...(I don't use that in my home game, Alchemy is mundane, not magical in my game...heh

Hey Clandru if you're having trouble creating the character by hand, try this generator.

PAIZO BOARD LINK

I used it for my bard character at home and it was pretty quick. It's in Excel format.

Hey Pavo, just thought of a fun trick, buy a spellbook, but make it have tear-out scrolls in it, so it's actually a scroll book...then if you ever get captured, they take away the "wizard's" spellbook...leaving you with your full complement of spells when you rest...heh.

Dreamweaver, I can see your argument, but I think I'd rather stick to the Acrobatic feat as written.

hey robin,

Xaaon's answer for your traits question is correct. If you have the Second Darkness player's guide, you're good to go. See further up the thread also for some alternative ways to find these traits.

It's okay if Clandru won't be done until the weekend. I might sneak the in-character thread in a little early if that's the case, though. We can get the role-playing started before all the nuts and bolts have been hammered out.

That's actually an awesome idea. Might just have to use that myself sometime. :)

Nasserath, that's a good background for Dorran as Ranger. I only feel bad that all that writing you did for Dorran as Cleric ddin't get used.

On that subject, I want to thank each of you for writing a background prior to getting officially accepted into this game. I realize that's perhaps a bit more work than some DMs would require. I appreciate that you all have put some thought into the characters beyond just stats. I'll do my best to run a fun game, and make it worth the extra effort.

Male Human Ranger Level 1

im pretty sure i finished my character let me know if i need to change anything

I appreciate a DM who asks for characters with a real background...I have wanted to make a character for this adventure for awhile...The initial hook for this specific AP is excellent, making it perfect for creating dynamic characters.

I just keep adding background to Marra...
