The cleric of Gorum in my group, rather than take the subtle hints and opportunities to find a deity better suited to him, has instead chosen to try to build an army in Kaer Maga. In fact, he seems to think he could probably take over the city all by himself.
I don't know much about Kaer Maga. I'm going to read the journal entry in Pathfinder #3. Any thoughts on how things should go or what he should meet?
Thanks.

I asked the hubby that is running RotRL, and he said that information on Kaer Maga is to be found in the Seven Swords of Sin adventure. Hope that helps!

Yeah, D2 and PF3's journal are the main information sources on Kaer Manga right now IIRC.
I would suggest watching 'Gangs of New York' for inspiration on how this would be taken...

So, I was prepared to tactical nuke the cleric and sorcerer in my group when they show up throwing around lightning bolts to impress the locals in Kaer Maga. Suddenly, last minute, the cleric's player decides to scout out the place first.
His reaction to what I was telling him was something along the lines of "Really?" "Are you kidding me?" "What?!"
So he decided to preach the word of Gorum in a more sedate fashion. He then tried to approach the Freemen to convert them. At first, he thought he could just walk in, challenge the leader and beat him up and then have control of the entire faction. Fortunately, he'd hired a guide who strongly advised him against it. But due to his general boneheadedness, lack of actual diplomacy skills and in general just being a tool, I decided that the Freemen, while polite, asked him to leave. I don't care what his diplomacy skill is. Be an idiot, people aren't going to take a shine to you.
I'd thought I'd quashed the whole die roll is all that matters nonsense in my group, but I guess not.
So now he's weighing his options on where to set up a temple to Gorum within the city. Oh, and I've given him a cohort and followers; kellids who are devout followers of Gorum and who will quickly realise that he is an awful cleric of Gorum.

What? He's talking? What are those diplomacy ranks doing there?
He totally should walk up to their leader and look who will still be standing when the dust settles. If he wins, he might have a fellowship, and if he loses, he knows he's not good enough yet.
This player is of the generation where everything is a die roll. He has shown a complete lack of ability to roleplay, his character has next to no development or personality despite having been played since August and he is making what is already a potentially difficult line to walk between roleplaying and rollplaying all the more difficult.
The guy is also 14 years younger than I am and the people I used to play D&D with. He's getting enough help from me stopping him from doing something suicidal. I've had to lead him around by the nose quite a lot on this one, and he should be smart enough for me to not have to do that. I refuse to have everything come down to one die roll when he won't even put any actual effort into some acts of diplomacy.

I've had house rules that if you don't roleplay your attempts, you get a -2 unclassed modifier on your skill check. You'd be surprised how quickly those who roll-play end up role-playing when their theatrics do something for them.
Either that or "I gather information on the person we're looking for*die roll*" brings the response "you stop walking and ask if anyone had heard of ___, people are looking at you strange for trying to get information from the air"
::evil laugh::
