Specific Questions about Bard's 'Inspire Courage'

Classes: Bard, Monk, and Rogue

Sovereign Court

Okay, I've been playing a Bard and I have a few specific questions about what Inspire Courage (pg. 18) can affect.

Inspire courage says that it gives a "+1 morale bonus to attack and weapon damage rolls". Now I hate to be the type to pick over every single word but since it doesn't say "weapon attack and damamge rolls" I believe this means all attack rolls even if they don't involve a weapon, such as rays.

I'm assuming I'm correct on this but even if I'm not this question would still apply. Would this +1 to attack rolls, whether they be weapon only or not, apply to a Universalist Wizards's ability Hand of the Apprentice (pg. 196). It's a supernatural ability in which the Wizard concentrates to make a weapon attack using his BAB +Int modifier. There is a melee attack roll involved. So I'm wondering if the attack roll AND the damage roll would recieve the benefits of a bard's inspire courage.

If you are rolling an attack, it must be by difinition an attack roll and the bonus goes to attacks. So yes if it is an attack you get the bonus (however unless otherwise stated ability damage is not altered by anything that alters normal damage, mainly becuase they are two different types of damage. This is stated in the glossary).

Sovereign Court

+1 to all attack and damage rolls for your allies. Simple! forget this "weapon" word...

yup.

+1 to attack rolls

+1 to damage rolls

+1 to ray attacks and damage

;)

interesting...

how about damage from attacks that do dot require an attack roll, such as a fireball spell or... well, that pretty much the only case I can think of at the moment.

It's not an attack, technically, unless there's an attack roll.

Here's the deal:

If there is a roll to hit with a spell it is considered "weapon-like" and can be used in conjunction with anything that would affect a weapon. The only time there is a difference is on damage: Ability Damage (not the same as normal damage), energy drain, and a few other things (penalties from spells like Ray of Enfeeblement) do not get an increase on their "damage" unless the effect states specifically that it will increase such spells "damage".

(Metamagics do not cause concern though, becuase they affect the dice not the damage that the spell uses.)

No + to damage on spells, but there is still a plus to hit. So don't ignore that word.
