I picked up the Pathfinder RPG beta a few weeks back, and for the most part, I'm pretty impressed, particularly with the new skill system. Indeed, I've been working on and off on a campaign setting of my own, in which there are no arcane or divine casters, but Psionic classes and the Tome of Battle are commonplace, and I plan to incorporate several elements of the PFRPG rules. I know that the Tome of Battle is a controversial book, and many do not care for it's particular brand of play. I do, and this thread is not intended to turn into a debate on its relative merits and flaws. I simply want some simple advice on the conversion.
To wit: the new skill system consolidates Balance, Tumble, and Jump under the heading of 'Acrobatics'. I very much endorse this consolidation, but it leaves me with a small dilemma. The disciplines in Tome of Battle each have an associated key skill; making checks in the key skill is a component of a few maneuvers and discipline related feats. Of the nine schools, four have a key skill that now comes under the heading of Acrobatics--Stone Dragon and Iron Heart both require an understanding of Balance, Desert Wind has the key skill of Tumble, and Tiger Claw adepts Jump like a pouncing tiger. While key skills are not incredibly important to the disciplines, having four disciplines that will all have the same key skill seems excessive-plus, since Stone Dragon uses Balance in the sense of "I am rooted to the spot, an unmovable, impenetrable bulwark," calling it Acrobatics seems slightly off in flavor terms. So, can anyone suggest a few alternate skills I might use as key abilities?
