PCGen Pathfinder Dataset bug / feedback

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Assuming that it's going to be released under the OGL I wouldn't see any reason why not. Of course we would have to wait for them to come out in August (assuming that they need changing). And it would probably help if there was a volunteer that had a vested interest in making them.

Like perhaps somebody that asked if they would be released (hint, hint :) )

As noted here in this thread

PCGen v5.15.10 (Beta) Released! PCGen is now shipping with a almost complete dataset and gamemode for Pathfinder.

I'm creating this thread here so that people can post if they have any bugs or feedback if they didn't have a yahoo account to be able to log onto our main PCGen mailing list

So beat on it and help us improve!. :)

I just downloaded 5.16, and I've found something I *think* is a problem. When creating a Sorcerer, the bloodline bonus spells take up regular sorcerer spell slots. Unless I'm misreading the rules, those spells should be above and beyond the spells a Sorcerer usually knows.

This has been trackered here.

Maybe I'm just not figuring out how to do it, but: It would appear the XP progression defaults to medium - how can I change it to fast or slow?

It's in the Preferences under the Settings Menu, in the Experience section of the preferences.

I just downloaded and played with this yesterday.

First of all, great job! I really like this tool and can see myself using it regularly for campaigns. Keep up the good work.

Three cosmetic things that bothered me as a new user:

1. Rolling Attributes was very confusing. It took me a while to even figure out where this was to be done at - the button location and wording seemed strange. Once I figured it out, I didn't understand what the pop-up box was even saying.

2. I was confused at seeing green "checks marks" on tabs that were NOT finished yet. A check mark usually signifies something that is done, not incomplete. I'd prefer a red exclamation point (!) or something similar.

3. Another problem I found is that the Rogue can take the talent that gives him weapon finesse when he already has the weapon finesse feat. (By the way, why is there a talent that gives you weapon finesse anyway in Pathfinder, when you can get it from a feat?)

#3 I believe that is from the rogue special abilities. But I coul be wrong since I don't play any rogues. Just a Druid, Cleric, Pally, & Spectral Loremaster (from Enc. Arc. Necromancy).

True. I guess there's not much point in creating a data set for the Pathfinder Society 3.5.

Hmmm. I have no idea how to create a data set, but depending on how hard it is and how much time I have free this summer, I might just take a short at it. Thanks.

Elf Height/Weight - so far the tallest elf I've managed to create with a random roll has been 64", which is starting height for a PF elf =)

Natural Spell - created a druid (Lvl 15) yesterday and kept trying to give her the Natural Spell Feat. Unable to do so. Whenever I would select the feat, under prereqs the Wis 13+ part would be in black, but the Wildshape progression would be in red, negating my ability to take the feat.

I've posted both of these to the main list to see if somebody can dig into the problems. It's probably a simple typo in the variable name for the Natural Spell, not sure on the Elf height and weight.

Mosaic, there's some beginner's guides in the documentation that comes with each version, click on List files>LST file Classes. It's also in the online documentation at the below address. You can also post to the PCGen List File Help group on Yahoo, with any problems you might be having having with creating your own data.

Looks like the data accounts for that already by adding a known slot for each bonus spell that's added. If you remove the bloodline the spells go away and the number of known spells drops by 1 in each level you have a bonus spell in.

Okay in PCGen there are files called name sets (essentially just really long lists of names with some rules). But they can be customized to fig with certain races, regions etc.

I was wondering if we could come up with a naming list for Pathfinder

Here's how the files are set up

It can also be done with small sylable sections as follows, I'm not sure if the line numbers are indicating a percentage or something internal to PCGen. I'm inclined to say percentage.

The name sets are located in \system\bio\names if anyone wanted to take a look at them.

Of course we can't include any copyright info from Golarian (unless Paizo gives permission), but I thought this is something that the PF community might find interesting to try. :)

And before anyone says "But players should come up with their own names." This also helps the DM when creating NPC's, plus may lessen the number of "unpronounceable" names. :)

Or we can just leave the name sets that are in there, the 1990 US Census can generate some pretty random names.
