Unarmed attack against a monk

Combat

First post, so I apologize in advance if this has been posted (could not find it) or seems general.

here goes: Does an untrained, unarmed attack, against a monk provoke an attack of opportunity?

Thanks!

Yes, Improved Unarmed Strike makes you armed. Unarmed strikes against an armed opponent provoke AoO.

dthunder, Thanks! I thought so, but better ask than to assume. I had an issue with a fellow player claiming two things:

1. figthers inherently know how to "fight", thus their unarmed attacks against a monk will not provoke AoO

2. melee between monks and unarmed enemies are resolved on equal terms (no AoO)

this clears up a whole lot!

No problem, brother. Tell your fighter that as long as he's wearing gauntlets, he still counts as armed. Go get 'em, tiger!
