Best Bard Spell?

Classes: Bard, Monk, and Rogue

Dark Archive

I'm rolling up a bard for a game and I can't decide what would be the best spell to take at first level. I am considering Cure Light Wounds, but there are so many other good ones that I'm afraid I my be missing something. Help me out please.

I my experience you should definately take hideous laughter. Given the level progression in duration, and the fact that the enemy gain no re-save (as in hold person) makes it one of the best combat spells.

Cure light wounds can be a nice choice, if you don't have a cleric around. If you do, don't waste your precious spells on it, and let him do the curing/healing :)

Edit: Remember, you get two 1st level spells a lvl 1.

if the spell compendium is available, Inspirational Boost will give you a bonus to your inspire courage ability.

If not, Cure Light Wounds is definetly not a BAD spell to have.

Other good choices include:

Grease
Hideous Laughter
Feather Fall
Silent Image

depending on what you want to do, decide what is most important. Silent Image gives you cover, versatility, and deception.
Feather Fall gives you escape and survivability
Hideous Laughter drops someone out of a fight, possibly
Grease lets the rogue sneak attack (or drops someone, or gets you out of a grapple, or...)
