So we played our first session of the Rise of the Runelords AP with the Beta Rules. All over it went well.
My only glaring complaint is the lack of skill points (and I'm the DM).
But that isn't my main question...
I full like the new XP system awarding flat points for each CR. It's faster than the old system but I'm not sure I am doing it right.
Basically, I don't know how to rate encounters with fractional CRs or mixed CRs.
A good example of one such occasion is:
4 goblin warriors (CR 1/3)
1 goblin ranger (CR 1 )
1 goblin dog (CR 1)
Could someone explain how I would use the charts in the Beta rules to score this?
I thank you in advance for any assistance you all can provide.
Dan

(Don't have the book here, so anyone can correct me if I throw around wrong numbers... ;)
You just multiply the amount of XP granted by each monster, i.e. for those goblin warriors 4 * 1/3 CR and then divide it with the number of the players (the "exact" method) or look up the proper column (number of PCs) to see how much each PC gets (i.e. '1-3' or '4-6' and so on). Then do the same with the goblin ranger and goblin dog -- you can add up their XPs, because both are CR 1 critters.
