I was just wondering if anyone knew rules/laws/whatever about creating an official and/or unofficial DragonLance or Ravenloft Conversion? Is this a possibility without getting people in some sort of legal trouble?

Is anyone already doing this? I saw some fan rules on DLNexus, but is there a more in depth conversion?
