I was trying to grab Weredragon #1 ($3.50), but I had three books on preorder (BoEM compilation, Pathfinder Bestiary, Pathfinder RPG Hardcover), and I wound up charging a crapload of money to my bank account I shouldn't have.
All of these charges showed up on my bank account summary after I went through checkout:
Pending POS DEBIT PAIZO PUBLISHING WA $9.20
Pending POS DEBIT PAIZO PUBLISHING WA $31.11
Pending ODP\SWP CR MEMO $1.00
Pending POS DEBIT PAIZO PUBLISHING WA $126.16
The $126.16 is for the preorder + weredragon stuff. I have no idea what the other three charges are for (shipping, maybe????)
Anyway, I'm looking at hardcore overdraft fees if these go through, and I can't use my debit card until they're taken off, so...
What can I do to correct this? I only wanted to charge $3.50 to my account...

Someone in the office will need to verify the details if you'd really like to know why it's all split up like that... I'm snowed in at home, and thus cannot see the details of your order.
However, I'm pretty confident that the answer is all about authorizations. We don't charge for preorder items until they ship, but when you place the order, we do get an authorization to ensure that your card can handle such a charge. Your bank will eventually close the authorization, but until they do, that credit is unavailable to you. The amount of time that it takes your bank to close the auth is completely up to them; there's nothing we can do to hasten it.
I would hope that your bank doesn't charge overdraft fees for unused authorizations, as none of that money is actually leaving your account yet; if they did, I would A) complain and B) consider looking for a more reasonable bank.

Pending ODP\SWP CR MEMO $1.00
I should note that "ODP\SWP" denotes a pending "Overdraft Prevention Sweep"—that is, they're apparently planning on moving $1 from another account to prevent you from going into overdraft. (Although once those pending auths expire, perhaps they won't bother moving it.)

Bah, you need a new bookcase. or at least something really stout to handle that mountain you are trying to call a library now... :P
hmm... Maybe should ask the other players if we should chip in $20 each or something to replace our loss... The atmosphere doesn't look the same since you lost it. :)

Try telling that to U.S. Bank. They're notorious for stacking up OD charges solely based on what is pending. They have 2 balances: your actual balance (the balance of physical cash in your account), and your 'available' balance (the total of your physical cash minus anything that's pending, whether it's actually coming out or not). Their OD charges are based on whether your 'available' (or as i call, 'virtual') balance becomes negative, and has nothing to do with the actual amount of money in your account.
Sorry for that.

It is because of the authorizations. Our database says that you have been authorized for the total amount of the order, but have only been charged for $3.50.
Cool, thanks :)
Yeah, I just kinda freaked because the total "authorization" wound up being @$160+, and tied up the remaining $$$ in my account (+$1, apparently) until it clears (which will probably be well after the "last minute xmas shopping" window... :( ) And, knowing Chase, I'm going to have a "nice" conversation with customer service after they try to charge me overdraft fees...
Oh, well, like I said, I just won't "pre-order" anything again...
