We need more Maneuvers

Combat

Scarab Sages

First I wanted to point out that I like CMB, and even though it seems there are areas were improvement can be made I will leave that to others :).

What I wanted to propose is the inclusion of new BASIC combat options for everyone. Things we see in movies and books all the time, such as:

* Taking hostages (ie knife to the neck).
* Rescuing hostages (ie taking care of the above).
* Defending a square (only certain dwarves of great renown can do it)
* Getting in harm's way ("taking a bullet")

What other basic maneuvers do you think should be included?

(I posted this a couple of days ago but the post eating monster ate it)

A few of these already exist

"Pinning" a character in D'n'D puts them at your mercy. Although called Pinning, it can easily be described as simply grappiling a character in such as way as to put them in danger (E.g, holding a knife to their throat.

As for rescuing someone in that situtaion...well...how would you rescue them RL? The only way I could think of (other than talking your way out of it) would be to attack and risk hitting the hostage, which applies when you attack someone in a grapple.

Defending a square can be done easily...it's stopping opponents from simply going around it thats the problem.

As for intercepting damage, theres always ready actions, and if not theres a feat in Drow of the Underdark made specifically for swapping yourself and an ally, so that you can take attacks allocated to them.

I disagree, pinning works by overpowering your opponent, what I am taking about works by threat of action or intimidation.

Ranged attacks in a grapple have a 50 - 50 chance of hitting the victim, if odds are that bad any one trying it is just dumb or is metagaming (victim can survive a shot)

Right... that's what I meant

Readying an action is wasteful, it should be an immediate action
