Too much is too much ?

Skills and Feats

As mentioned inanother thread and since I didn't want to hijack said thread, I repost a though / concern here:

It has to do with powercreep and the number of feats a character gets under PRPG-rules (i.e. 1 feat at every odd level):

As PRPG stated, "core" characters are made more powerful because of later 3.5 product's powercreep. Now, I can't see then, why a feat at every odd character level (mind you) makes "core" characters more powerful in relation to say any later claaes/prestige classes from 3.5 as these classes also get the increased number of feats.

The result is not only a powercreep in core characters but ALSO in the 3.5 characters of later books.

(although optional from UA add flaws and traits - my players like them - and perhaps a "background feat" for free and you have even more feats)

Thoughts?

The feats isn't part of the balancing with 3.5 PrC's, but just a feature of PRPG's desire to be rid of "dead levels." But yes, we are elevating the average characters power, and if that character takes a PrC then they will be more powerful. But they will now be sacrificing an amount of power from their core class.

As for flaws and traits, those are supposed to balance one another out, and background feats shouldn't be free, they are taken in place of your first level feat. They tend to be of greater value, but are restricted that you may only take one and you must take it at first level.

PRPG might have to "break" the old leveling table a bit to get free of the OGL. Not sure that's what's going on here, but I think it is the culprit behind the new experience tracks.

I think the idea of a fully compatible 3.5e update has been left behind long ago. I think it works best if you regard the system as a new d20 game and not so much as an addition to D&D.

Of course if the powercreep it too much we can always go back to first and advanced D&D... ;)
