Arcane Archer-Why Only Elves?

Since we have gotten rid of the only other racial specific PrC is there really any reason why only elves and half-elves can be an arcane archer? I have always liked the flavor of a magic using archer, but I seldom play an elf or half-elf so I have been shut out of the arcane archer for a long time. I just wonder if there is really any reason to keep the racial restriction in place?

I don't think there is a reason not to remove this requirement. I think it should go to the side that AAs were developed by elves, just like the duskblade.

I suppose it's more in keeping with the "traditional" Arcane Archer?

I don't really mind it, but I also don't like restricting my players for simple racial requirements. My solution is to up the requirement cost for non-elves, or simply add a little "Special: Must have lived among elves" or something.

The way I see it, no one is gonna scream IMBA at a half-orc or human arcane archer; the racial requirement is just fluff.

NOTE: Did they get rid of the Dwarven Defender? I thought Jason said he may save it for future material... I would love to see his make of it / hate to see it gone. :[

I believe that the Beta Prestige enhancement was only meant to be a first look at Prestige Classes, not the end all list. For my part I like the idea of at least some prestige classes that have a racial flair.

The prestige class list for the PFRPG book, per Jason, is about as set in stone as anything - no Dwarven Defender this time around, but we'll probably see it again sooner or later.

Anyone should be able to become an Arcane Archer. The elves may have invented the class, but that doesn't mean that they should be the only ones to take levels in it. You're just reinforcing stereotypes and limiting player construction options by retaining this restriction.

I was under the impression that they got rid of the Dwarven Defender due to the fact that is was 'Dwarf Only'. I am also on the band wagon to make Arcane Archer ANY race. It was one of the first things I notice when looking over the Prestige Classes and needless to say I was extremely disappointed. My current character is a Sorcerer with more than enough Dexterity and Bow Feats to qualify for this. Time to shop for some pointed rubber ears I guess.
