[PrC General] Prestige Class Requirements - What Changes Do You Want To See?

Prestige Classes

This is an all-inclusive thread for desired changes to the requirements that characters must fulfill to advance in the beta prestige classes.

I'll start off with the assassin and the arcane archer.

With the assassin, I believe that the alignment requirement is a bit unrealistic. Take for example, the intelligence operative assigned to take out a confirmed terrorist leader. The agent sent as an assassin certainly has the skills of an assassin but isn't necessarily evil. In fact a good person may indeed develop the skills of an assassin to eliminate evil threats to society. He/she doesn't have to like what he/she does, but having a conscience doesn't prevent him/her from having the sort of skill set represented by the assassin prestige class for his/her line of work.
Unless a blatantly evil-themed class feature like unholy aura is added to the class, I believe that the alignment restriction should be stricken.

With the arcane archer, I believe that the racial requirement is illogical since none of the prestige class' features have anything to do with the racial features of an elf or half-elf. For example, improved low-light vision, which extends the range of low-light vision, or unearthly allure, giving a bonus to Charisma-based skill checks.
Therefore the arcane archer class should be open to any race capable of using magic.

The assassin kills for money and is proficient with poison. In game terms it's hard for me to imagine a non-evil assassin, but that may be just tradition. The assassin is supposed to be scary. Also, the PrC may be getting a 10th level ability to trap the soul (link here).

I agree, none of the core PrCs should have a racial requirement.

I really would rather dispense with the concept of "core PrC". Core in my mind is defined by the base classes only, I actually restrict it the classic four classes, fighter, wizard, rouge, cleric. These are the "core" concept classes with everything else being in varying degrees of fringe. Paladin and Ranger being off reflections of Fighter, Druid of Cleric, Sorcerer of Wizard, etc.

Prestige classes aren't supposed to be common, they reflect twists, specialisations of base and core classes. I have no problems with racial or even nationality an religon restricted PrC (or base) classes.

The intelligence operative mentioned before wouldn't need to be an assasin, he could be an arcane trickster, a rouge, or even a bard, thier approachs might differ but any of those who gets things done. The assasin however is not just a package of skills, it's the reflection of someone who chooses murder (as opposed to combat, stealth, spell etc.) as a way of life. Who would just as easily take a contract out on Mother Theresa as he would Adolf Hitler. The Assasin like any Prc that's developed more than just a container for a bag of tricks is the expression of a type of personality, in this case a cold blooded killer. The Assasin is someone who will kill Anybody, even backstab thier partner, without hesitation if ordered to do so.. and paid. He can be honor bound to his contract, as a lawful type (like Clint Eastwood's Nameless Drifter in "A Fistful of Dollars" who is offered money by his target to go take out the one who originally employed him. He takes the money shoots the target and after he gets paid by his employer, shoots him as well.) Or he could not be, reflecting a chaotic personality being bought by whoever pays him at the moment.

When you think Assasin, you should not be thinking James Bond, (who in my mind is probably the worst example of either an assasin, or a spy that anyone could think of), you should be thinking Hitman.

I simply meant non-supplemental, i.e. anything appearing in the core rulebook. I do not want to see a racially restricted PrC in the core rulebook.

That's fine, just save those for the supplements please.
