Nick Herold's Pathfinder Bestiary Thread (cross-posted, sort of)

I don't know what the policy of cross-posting is on this messageboard, but I assume it's generally frowned upon. Which is why I'm only going to post a link to my Pathfinder Bestiary Thread on EN World, which I assume would be of general interest.

Nick Herold's Pathfinder Bestiary

My goal with this thread is to make stats for creatures mentioned in or inspired by Pathfinder Chronicles products. So far, I have:

The Dwellers in Darkness, Lovecraftian monsters from space inspired by both mi-go and mind flayers.

Three species of giant gecko: the blinding glitterscale, the predatory frostleaper and the horned spirestalker, with its unusual symbiosis with a species of terrestrial coral.

Four species of drakes: the cunning and manipulating caustic drake, the speedy lightning drake, the bloodthirsty frost drake and the primal thunder drake.

Ice wights, inspired by the illustration from Pathfinder #3 of Lamatar Bayden's frosty undead corpse.

Twigjacks, a species of fey that would fit right into Carnival of Tears.

Gollix serpents, or war nagas, which proudly serve in Cheliaxian armies in Molithrune.

Numerian spine dragons, tainted with starmetal.

Koblaks, Nic Logue's demented take on death-tainted bugbears.

And the Oliphaunt of Janderlay itself, last seen in Pathfinder #5 dwarfing its Thassilonian summoner.

And more are being added on a fairly regular basis!

Check it out, won't you?

Okay, yeah, these are awesome and I had no idea this was going on! Thanks for the post!

Very cool stuff. The adamantine-laced dragon and the evil fey are my favorites so far.

These monsters are great! Thanks for the cross-post. I hardly ever go to EnWorld any more, so I would never have found this on my own.

Good Stuff I too would of never of found these either

Great job, inspirational. The one I was most interested in was the frost wight as I am running RotRL, it needs better attack bonus but otherwise cool.

I really enjoy the descriptive text as I cant be bothered figuring out the maths.

The Oliphaunt is awesome. Not sure I picked up on it being bipedal before, but stats-wise, it's just what I would have expected, on a par with Achaekek.

Neither the text nor the illustration of the Oliphaunt specify its number of legs, but I went for bipedalism for two reasons:

1) Bipedal elephants remind me of demonology renditions of Behemoth, a demon with a portfolio of destruction and consumption--very Oliphaunt-ish.

2) The Oliphaunt of Janderlay strikes me very much as a kaiju, and there's not many quadrupedal kaiju (because of the guys in suits, of course). The Oliphaunt of Janderlay vs. Godzilla would be quite the match...

How do you mean "needs better attack bonus"? The math is definitely right; +3 BAB, +4 Str, +1 feat. If you think the attack bonus is too low for its CR, it is lower than, say, a mummy. But mummy rot doesn't actually affect those infected until after the combat, and the rime is save for half, rather than save for none. And the rime lowers Dexterity, making the target easier to hit every time...

At the risk of sounding too lazy, do you have this uploaded as a document anywhere?

(And just to join the chorus, ENWorld doesn't hold the attraction for me that it once did, either...so thanks for starting a thread over here.)

I'm not dead! And neither is my thread!

If anyone's interested, I've posted three new creatures recently (for a given definition of "recently")--the inverted giant (based on one of Wolfgang Baur's fantastic name-drops in his articles on Thassilon), the horrorwisp, and the ghollo, which was inspired by Into the Darklands.

I've also posted the Community Use agreement in the first post, and registered the thread here on Paizo.

Happy gaming!

Good! Is it only in thread form?

In my case, I wouldn't say that. In stead, I would invoke the curtain pole my bard Allezandro uses to set off traps.

I join the others asking you to put the stuff into a PDF and host that.

I never knew about this thread either.

Now that a license exists, lets get this guy some work and/or credit!

I think his efforts at least merit getting his foot in the door.

Great work here, demi! Can you tell us what the CR for the Frostleaper Giant Gecko is? It can't seem to find it in the statblock...

Keep 'em coming, please.

Nick/Demiurge,
Would you mind if I gathered these into a pdf? I copied the text without changes, other than fonts and pagination issues.

For your own use, that's fine. I'd prefer it if you didn't upload it to the internet or anything. I need to figure out a more permanent way than ENWorld to get these out there.

Oh, and the frostleaper should be CR 2. I always forget something in this stat-block format.

OK. I'd be happy to send you a copy of it when I am done.
EDIT: And just to confirm, no, I'm not going to upload it for distribution.

If there is any way I could help you do this through the Pathfinder Portal then please let me know. My forums are just about ready, and I could set up a forum category just for your works. Preferable I'd rather link to a PDF containing your work, in the Fan Submission area of the site.

Is there any reason you are reluctant to release these publicly as a PDF? Based on the new Community Use policy, as long as the PDF contained the appropriate legal clause, I don't believe there would be any concerns from Paizo about the content.

The Grand OGL Wiki would be pleased to help you published your pathfinder support material in our new content section as well.

I appreciate all of your attention and support--however, I must deny all everybody's requests to host/share/distribute my work. I am working on a website myself, and would like to remain the sole distributor of my Bestiary. Again, thank you for the offers, but I wish to do this myself.
