Are there any illegal drugs in Golarion that have been mentioned in any of the sources to date? What are they amde form? Sorry to bother with this mundane question, but I am away from my gaming library and need to know for a scenario proposal.

One of the obvious answers is the drug "shiver" from Curse of the Crimson Throne which is made from the distilled essence of dream spiders.

Grit is mentioned in scenario #8.

Pesh has been mentioned before and may be detailed in the Legacy of Fire Aventure Path.

Barbarian chew is in the Rise o/t Runelords Player's Guide.

There are more but I don't recall where they are.

Thanks for the answers. They are somewhat helpful, but I may be forced to fall back on a creation of my own.

Moved to the appropriate forum.

Dark Archive

There's a Drugs of Korvosa section on page 54 of the Guide to Korvosa that details cabble-weed, shiver, flayleaf, pesh, qat, and thileu bark.

Pesh, thileu bark, and flayleaf get mentioned in the flora section of the Campaign Guide too.

Cabble weed is made from the plant of the same name, which grows in damp soil. Shiver is from distilled dream spider venom. Flayleag comes from a redish-brown-leafed plant related to cabble weed. Pesh comes from a cactus that grows down near Katapesh. Qat comes from the leaves of a plant. Thileu bark comes from the bark of the very slowly growing thileu tree. Barbarian chew comes from the leaves of the galtroot, a bush found in the Cinderland. Grit is made from "a combination of alchemically strengthened barbarian chew, boiled down to a thick paste and dried on cotton sheets, and several volatile plant-based chemicals like redroot and bitterbark."

I've been thinking about having an underworld drug trade in a campaign, and love the rules for drugs in the Book of Vile Darkness.

There's some useful citations in PathfinderWiki's Recreational Drugs of Golarion (all books I don't have yet).

Do these sources present mechanical, crunchy rules for drug use and drugs as poisons?

There should be about a page or so on this topic in the "Adventurer's Armory".

It's one of my sections so stay tuned :)

w00t! The Armory is a Companion, so my subscription will get it.

Drugs provide a high-value cargo for organized criminals (with a lower risk than slavetrading), so it'd be great to have some drugs that are traded across long distances, like qat and pesh.

Just a quick note, most modern drugs originate from new world plants. Old world I think is limited to Poppies, Canabis, Mushrooms, Mandrake and alcohol (mainly beer, mead and wine).

Wherever you go in the world, there are people trying weird plants to see what they do. Coffee and ephedra (soma) are Old World, and kava is probably Old World. New World drugs are coca, mateine, and some psychedelics like mescaline...?

Liberty's Edge

Both blue and pink lotus are old world, but I'm not sure if you would classify those as a drug or herbal relaxant.

Qat (which exists in Golarion) is (from) an old world plant.

Some material concerning this might show up in Wayfinder #2. :)

Yeah, due to space limitations I had to cut this section from Adventurer's Armory. Liz was kind enough to give it a home.

So, good news bad news I guess.

Considering Wayfinder 1 had something I cut out of "Elves of Golarion" this is on its way to becoming a tradition... :)
