Jason:
The following came up during a discussion in the Chatroom.
P. 360
…A staff has 50 charges when created…
…Staves hold a maximum of 10 charges. Each spell cast from a staff consumes one or more charges. Each morning, when a spellcaster prepares spells, he can also imbue one staff with a portion of his power so long as one or more of the spells cast by the staff are on his spell list and he is capable of casting at least one of the spells. Imbuing a staff with this power restores one charge to the staff, but the caster must forego one prepared spell or spell slot of a level equal to the highest-level spell cast by the staff…
Question:
Is it 50 charges or 10 charges that a staff can hold?Request for clarifications:
Can a spellcaster only recharge a single, specific, staff whenever it is that he prepares spells?
Can a spellcaster recharging a staff forego (in the absence of special feats/classes, yet to be determined) multiple spell slots at one time to restore multiple charges?
Can several spellcasters (in the same day) each forgo a spell (when they would normally prepare them) to each restore a charge to the same item?
Does a staff at 0 charges retain the ability to be recharged and its various properties not dependent upon charges (EG +2 luck bonus of a Staff of Power, P. 362), or (like a wand which runs out of charges, P. 362) does it cease to be a magical item?
