I want to play Shadowrun4 but I can't find enough people in Albuquerque that want to play to start a tabletop version. So is anyone out there that wants to play or run a PBP version. I would be willing to run the game but I’ve never played the 4th edition, I have read the books though. I've never run a PBP game before either.

I think pbp, because it's so slow, is good for novice dm's. You can look s!%+ up all the time and nobody can tell. It won't stall the game.
And as slow as it is, for me it's faster than the once a month I bet I could wrangle to play IRL right now. I'd be this horse-holding dude all the time while everybody was in the dungeon. But boy would I brush those horse's coats shiny.
I think the MAIN thing is the dungeonmaster has to really drive the action, or it can get bogged down. I think railroading to some extent can be forgiven at times. Also, don't be afraid to elect ONE CHARACTER who's party leader, and can make piddly decisions for everybody.
Waiting for a group consensus in pbp can take a while.

It looks like there’s more interest in Shadowrun than I though that‘s good.
I've played and run the 2nd ed. Shadowrun before so it's just the mechanics of 4ed that would slow me down so I'll run the game I Just need 4 to 6 players. I'll start working on basics of a plot, contacts, Mr. Johnson’s and so on. I'll post back here in a day or two to let everybody know when we can start. So I guess the first 4 to present characters get to start play and from what I do remember of the game it is very easy to swap characters in and out of existing games so we can add the 2 extra players as needed.

WEll ya could run 2e if ya like I still have them books. Also the homepage had some organized play stuff up . Them missions looked mineable for ideals
I sold all my old games when I moved from Dallas to Albuquerque 10 years ago so I don't have any of the 2ed books. I only got back into gaming 2 years ago playing 3.5 D&D. One day in my FLGS I saw a copy of 4ed Shadowrun and in a fit of nostalgia I bought it but have never got to play it.
already peeked at the homepage but thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming, I am open to all advice or ideas anybody has.P.S. Only one rigger and decker allowed in the game at one time. The first one to want to play one gets to.

I recommend 4E for play by post. If you use invisible castle you can roll multiple six sided with a target number of five or six and it give you the number of successes you achieve. That works great for 4E, but wouldn't work well with older versions where you have to beat variable target numbers and reroll sixes and add them to your roll. Bottom line- 4E mechanics are way more compatible with invisible castle.

Ic is a great site to use. From what I have seen of the 4e rules they are much more streamline but have the same feel mostly. Character generation seems to be one of the biggest changes.
A few things that pop into my head.
*Use a site such as flickr to host maps if ya need to.
*If you use IC have all players log on and fill the game name out , this allows you to do a search based on name and game to see all roll history.

Characters should use the basic 400 build points.
Thanks for the web site info, dropshock has a lot of good info in it, and iron castle is just too darn usefull.
How or what service can i use to post maps for wveybody to look at? In a pbp D&D game I'm in the DM uses facebook, are there any others that are better, just as good or I should stay away from?

I use flickr for mine. But if facebook works for ya use it. I am working on a pc, mostly just to get the hang of the build system which is way diff. The hacking /rigging system is alot to wrap my head around big change there too. The rules seems to flow better however.
I basically updated a 2e char to 4e a adapt named spider. She turned out pretty good under this system will make a few more though.
If ya need to ask any thing else about pbp's feel free to do so.

I'm getting kinda brused from all bumping going around, anyway I'm putting the final touches on the story now and should be ready soon.
Can I get a list of the contacts your characters have from any or all of you wanting to play so I can incorparte them in to the plot and get you guys started.
[edit]Never mind I just looked over Thomas Chance and he's got contacts that I can use to lure you into the run.[/edit]

Well, I just put on some background on Thomas and most of his contacts.
Your bartenders name is Twiggy, he and his brothers run the mission bar
On an unrelated note, anyone know if Jason Beardsley is still planning on playing in this? He hasn't posted in this since he first expressed interest way back when.
Considering how long its taken me to get it started he probably figured it was all talk and no game. Jason you and a couple others are still welcome to join.

There is a bit, I do like the 4e rules better. You can download the fast play can be found here
they do have pregens in em and tell many of the basic rules. If y know 3e most of the rules will look familiar

I'd love to play, but all I have is Shadowrun 3. Is there much difference?
Yup, lots of difference in the character generation, I'm not so sure about the combat. Here's a PDF for converting 3ed to 4ed www.shadowrun4.com/resources/sr4/sr3_to_sr4.pdf . Also I've never run the 4ed Shadowrun before so I'm going to be stressing rollplaying not combat. We can walk you through the combat that does take place.

Thanks Davi, I'm having trouble geting any links to work today.
I'm going to set up the PBP thread tonight It will be titled 'the Milk Run'.
I need at least one contact from each player so I can write your intro.
Davi I have yours ready and will post it when I get home and start the Milk Run thread.

I'll be playing an Elven Street Samurai named Ronin. I'm still working on the actual character, but if we are going to be role-playing for a few days I should have him done by then. He has a contact he calls Mouse. She is a street kid that he watches out for like a little sister, and who in turn tips him off to possible profitable opportunites. Hope this helps.
