Second Darkness

Scarab Sages

It appears that Shalelu has returned from her Goblin Hunting near Sandpoint and now has a hand in stopping a global apocalypse.

Does this mean that friendly NPCs from previous adventure paths (not including Celeste perhaps) are going to start popping up in the future?

Yes. In fact, one of the citizens of Sandpoint will be a KEY NPC in an upcoming Adventure Path... maybe even as soon as AP 6!

Allow me to extrapolate wildly...

Ameiko commisions PCs to visit Minkai, Corwn of the World and Oriental Adventures Galorian-style!

fingers crossed

Yup, expect the Maver and Pennae Kesk AP coming soon!

I'm debating whether to set my Second Darkness game in the same continuity as my RotRL game, because my Shalelu got killed by goblins, raised as a half-fiend by Lamashtu, and then killed again (this time by the PCs). I could easily swap her out for another character, of course, but...

Shalelu bit it in my campaign too. Stomped on by Stone Giants while defending Sandpoint. So I'll have to make a new NPC to take her place for 2nd Darkness.

I still think it's a great idea to reuse NPCs from past campaigns though. Even if I can't use Shalelu this time, maybe I'll get to use some other player favorite in another AP. Here's hoping for the triumphant return of Orik Vankaskerkin.

My money is on Ameiko Kaijitsu and the AP 6 being set in Tian Xa. Ha !

James has previously hinted that Ameiko would likely show up again in the future (and he’d have an opportunity to commission some better art for her – if I remember correctly, possibly even a cover illustration), so I think that Ameiko, and by association Tian Xa is a good bet.

Any chance on getting AP2 NPCs to appear in future APs as well? :) The guys from RotRL are great an all, but only two of my players participated in that campaign (not being one of mine either). Our group as it is started with CotCT. If we have an RotRL guy in the 3rd AP and another one in AP 6...man, I want some AP2 love. :(

Absolutely. We've got plans, for example, for Queen Ileosa's family back in Cheliax...

Alen!

I remember emitting a little “squee!” when I saw ol’ Ruphus Laro had been promoted to head of the church of Cuthbert in Sasserine. The practice of carrying NPCs from one Path to the next is likely the main reason I’m so sad that I’ll never have time to run every Path Paizo produces.

It also makes me really nervous about making any changes to the Paths. I’d hate to cheat my players of a nice campaign tie-back if I remade Ameiko to be Varisian. It’s getting to the point where it’s no longer enough to wait until the entire Path is published before I consider running it. Now I have to wait for the following two Paths to hit the shelves so I don’t wind up accidentally cutting a Vankaskerin or something…
