Transmutation cannot be the "Everything Else" School

General Discussion (Prerelease)

This might be a topic for the "Spells" chapter review, but I want to throw it out there now because I think it affects school specialization in a big way.

Generally, I think the schools could be more balanced in terms of the number and power of the spells they have.

Specifically, I think Transmutation has been unimaginatively used as a dumping ground for spells whose effects are not easily categorized. This has made it a very appealing choice as a specialization, because it has the most spells, the most unique spells, and many of the best spells.

I would like to see stronger school definitions, some spells need to be switched out of Transmutation if they do not actually transmute or alter something, and these spells need to be transferred to the weaker schools somehow. At least the weaker schools need to be filled out with new spells.

Do you have examples of spells in the transmuation school that you don't think belong? Otherwise, your point seems to be just an opinion and doesn't give a lot of meat behind it to discuss.

As an aside, I think that to a certain extent you're right, but I think with some examples of what you're getting at, there'll be better discussion.

I agree with this, but this is not yet the forum to discuss this. I am moving this thread to General Discussion.

Fair enough. I can contain my perennial rant until then...
