Halloween game session

3.5/d20/OGL

So with Halloween coming up this week, I'm planning a spooky session for my players, involving a haunted plantation, a ghost that can't rest, a vampire to be slain and a devil behind the whole thing.

Anyone have any other ideas? Things I should include? Things I should leave out because they're too cliche?

Halloween is all about cliche... that's half the fun, laughing at things that most times would only amuse children. Make sure you have rotten boards/trap in the plantation, so that a cleric doesn't ruin it all with one turning. The vamp might want some live thralls too for the same reason.

A haunted plantation can always use Yellow Musk Creepers. Yeah for evil plant monsters!

I'm doing it as a murder mystery session for my players.

The players come across a freshly dissected-while-alive body and a few disturbing occult-like viewings (circle of blood, signs of a ritual, animals shunning the scene, etc).
They then locate a near by town and find a cast of semi suspicious characters who each might or might not be the killer and who each have their own theories/suspicions.
Add a few sub plots and crimes layered underneath.
The tale ends with a real evil spirit being raised to attack the party to try and cover the killer's tracks.
Can they find enough information to identify who the killer is and how to stop the manevolent spirit?

We will find out.

Add a twist (like in most horror stories).

The house is actually the source of the evil.
Add haunted items.
Or extra tricks (maybe the vampire has some twisted ritual where he binds his life force to innocent prisoners & every time he is 'slain' a prisoner dies in his place.).

You can RP after you go to the PARTEEEEE!!!!

I'm running a weird multi-player event where people start from different backgrounds and come in and different times during the day in different groups to progress the story... starts in 1 hour... eep!

I've written an adventure about a haunted road inn, where a not-really-dead-but-completely-crazy assassin is stalking the patrons from a magical mirror (where he is trapped too), dragging them into a shadow reflection of the inn "on the other side".

I've relied quite a bit on the haunts mechanic from PF. They are great narrative tools for places tainted with the supernatural.
