Would it simplify things to just make the rogue and bard weapon-proficiency lists the same? Right now rogues get hand crossbows and bards get longswords and whips, otherwise they have the same weapons. Hand crossbows and whips seem appropriate for both, and do many bards use longswords?

Just a thought.

It would simply things, sure... but it would further blur the lines between bards and rogues. Personally, I'd rather have a more complex subset of weapon proficiencies so that the classes feel a little different.

Simplification is good... but oversimplification is not always good.
