(I posted this way back before I saw we were doing things in stages. Am now resurecting it in the proper place.)
The old ability of Find/Remove Traps from first addition was split into Craft Trap (with the information buried in the Craft skill) and Disable Device handling removing the trap in 3.0 and 3.5.
I can't find any info in the Rogue or in Craft on how to set adhoc traps, as the ancient skill was for. Under Craft there seems to be only info on mechanical traps -- which I consider very different from the intent of the old ability. Information may be buried later in the book, but I'd really like this to be clarified and put in one place for the ease of players and DMs to find. (This was a surprise, as we've been playing 3.0 for years, and never noticed the info was MIA :) We just used Disable Device for setting adhoc traps as well, but now see that was not the intent?)
How about Craft Trap (ie., Trapmaking) for complex devices you can bring to set up, and use Disable Device for adhoc trap creation, as well as dismantling and Opening Locks that I see was folded into it.
Thoughts?

Not so much doing it during combat, though that's an intriguing idea, but trapping a door behind the party in case there's someone following you, or setting an ad hoc trap on a chest or around a temporary camp while the cleric or mage catches some zzzs is what I had in mind. It seems that the only rules from 3.0 on for creating traps are elaborate ones that take days if not weeks to perfect.

Trap information in general starts on page 307. Trap designing information starts on page 312 (but you’ll need information for the earlier pages to design the trap). The Craft (trapmaking) DC table is on page 313 and the craft DCs for mechanical traps information is on page 314.
Oh yeah and the description of a mechanical trap is...
Mechanical traps include pits, arrow traps, falling blocks, water-filled rooms, and anything else that depends on a mechanism to operate. A mechanical trap can be constructed by a PC through successful use of the Craft (trapmaking)skill (see Designing a Trap and the skill description).
I'd love to see what you come up with by working yoru way through the design process.
Cheers
