Presumably clarified elsewhere, but what does the 'take 10' element of the 5th-level Bard ability 'Lore Master' give you? Anyone can take 10, can't they, if they're trained? Or does it mean that you can 'take 10' even under fire?
(I know I asked this question before the Bard class was the focus and I maybe did get an answer, but I can't find it now).
Also, is there even an explanation of what 'tale 10' and 'take 20' actually means in PFRPG? I know what it means because of playing 3.5 and I guess no one's in the playtest that doesn't know, but it had better end up explained in the final game, which (one hopes) might attract beginners...

You cannot take 10 all the time, and Knowledge skills normally don't allow it at all.
Ah, I didn't know that Knowledge skills don't normally allow it (there are no take 10/take 20 rules I could find in the Beta and I couldn't find a statement against using it for knowledge skills in the SRD, although I could easily have missed it; do you have a reference?).

In 3.5 they don't. Beta is kind of odd somethings aren't there and are supposed to work the 3.5 way and others aren't there and are not supposed to be. If you can take 10 on knowledge checks then this ability goes from bad to useless.
Where does it say in 3.5 that you can't take 10 on Knowledge? I looked at the online srd and couldn't find it, but I guess it could be in the PHB (or maybe even, like the 'no xp penalty for prestige class levels' thing, accidentally ommitted from the way to 3.5 from 3.0).
The 'bad to useless' issue was my concern, actually. However, as there's no actual rules for taking 10 in the Beta at all, I was bemused...

Hmm.. it appears that the rules for taking 10 and 20 do not appear in the current rules document. This issue will be addressed. As an aside, you cannot normally take 10 or 20 on a Knowledge skill check.
Aha, now it makes sense. I knew you couldn't take 20 (not sure from where) but not that you couldn't take 10.
On a related note, I made a plea today for somewhere we can put errata when we find them, rather than waiting until their section comes up by which time we may have forgotten them... It's just occurred to me because I'm getting a party genned up so am reading the books in a referential manner now. Although I appreciate that might be a drag on you guys.
