Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Looks good to me, Qadim-sul mucking sadly along behind Fargrim.

I'm okay with my current positioning. Marching eastward.

Female Human Rogue 2

Fine for me.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

At this point, Fargrim suddenly stops as he is clambering up onto the next island. The rest can now see loops of scintillating, shimmering scales descending sinuously from a tree on the far side of the island -- some kind of very large serpent seems to have hypnotized Fargrim.

That was the surprise round (yes, I'm rolling stealth checks for these things). Fargrim is stunned (save ends). Init:
Block 1
Lafiel
Rin
Serpent
Block 2
Qadim-Sul
Drivish
Barshevy
Fargrim
Block 1, go. Remember the swim checks.

Female Human Rogue 2

"Won't these monsters ever learn ?" Lafiel sighs and advances toward the serpent. She releases a dagger at it, then swims to its island and jumps back into the water in order to flank it.

Hunter's Quarry on serpent, Deft Strike (swim to M10)=12 damage, swim to O8, jump to Q8
Swim 1; Swim 2; Jump (1d20+7=18, 1d20+7=20, 1d20+7=20)
Sly Flourish;Damage;Hunter's Quarry (1d20+9=16, 1d4+6=9, 1d6=3)

male Half elf wizard 7

"Let's hope it's not too wet to burn." Rin hurls fire from his orb at the serpent.

Aiming at P10 to miss Lafiel. Scorching Burst v Ref: (1d20 4=17, 1d6 3=8). He doesn't move.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Lafiel misses, Rin hits.

The snake uncoils from the tree and, disregarding Lafiel, moves toward its hypnotized prey, Fargrim. Lafiel, take an OA

It coils around Fargrim and begins to constrict, then, its jaws opening hideously, starts to swallow the dwarf. 11 constrict damage, 5 acid damage. Fargrim is still stunned this round, meaning about all he can do is save vs stun

Block 2
Qadim-Sul
Drivish
Barshevy
Fargrim

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

Drivish swims to land and readies his halberd.

Double move to O9. The map still shows the snake in Q9, but I have a feeling it's closer to Fargrim. So O8 and P9 are also acceptable squares. Then spend an action point.

Drivish lashes out with his halberd, cutting with the axe head and jabbing with the haft in an effort to break the snake's hold on the dwarf.

Reaping Strike 22 vs. AC; 8 damage or 4 on a miss
And the snake is marked.

Desperate to save Fargrim from being eaten alive, Barshevy hopes the trick that worked on the vine creature will work again on the serpent.

Standard Action : Cause Fear

1d20+3=20

Current HP: 21

Save vs Stun

I hope that's not bad, lol.

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel manages to swing again before the snake moves toward Fargrim

OA vs snake;Damage;Hunter's Quarry (1d20+6=18, 1d4+1=2, 1d6=3)

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Qadim-sul?

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Sorry!

Qadim-sul steps forward and strikes at the snake with a crash of thunder.
Move to N9; Booming Blade vs. AC (1d20+7=21), Damage (1d8+4=6)

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Lafiel's opportunistic attack missed, but Qadim-sul and Drivish both land solid blows on the serpent. Barshevy's enchantment forces it to flee, but poor Fargrim is too far in its gullet to be left behind. On the other hand, Fargrim's bulk slows it substantially.

Drivish and Q-S, take OAs. Lafiel already got one in on this turn

Nice, lol.. am i still taking ongoing damage, or am i dead again?

Heh. Unusually, you take the ongoing on the snake's turn in this case. It's not a save-ends kind of thing.

Ah, i see. So, the stunning is the save-ends, not the damage, correct?

Fargrim wrote:

Yes

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

OA with Power Attack 14 vs. AC; 8 damage
I probably shouldn't have Power Attacked.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

OA (1d20+7=9), Damage (1d8+2=7)
And the snake takes 1d6+2 thunder damage from Booming Blade as it moves away from me.

male Half elf wizard 7

In anticipation

Realising that the serpent is rapidly dragging Fargrim out of reach, Rin tries to slow things down a bit.

Ray of Frost v Fort (1d20 4=23, 1d6 3=6). On hit, serpent is slowed to end Rin's next turn.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Your turn, Lafiel. Then Rin's ray, then the serpent.

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel advances to the snake, wielding only her dagger. Not wanting to let it get away with Fargrim, she forces the snake back towards the rest of the group.

Positioning Strike vs. Will (1d20+9=29, 1d4+4=6, 1d6=1)
Crit for 14 damage, slide the snake back to O9-P9

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

The snake, though suffering many wounds, still shimmers seductively and hypnotically. It also finishes swallowing Fargrim, now wholly inside the serpent.

It then lashes out at Lafiel, grabbing her in its coils. -7hp and grabbed, then bites at her but somehow misses.

RL, QS, La, DA, Ba (1d20+8=23, 1d20+8=23, 1d20+8=24, 1d20+8=17, 1d20+8=18)

Those were will attacks -- I believe everyone is stunned. Everyone make saves (including Fargrim); those are your turns. Meanwhile, Fargrim takes 5 acid damage on the snake's turn. It used an action point to attack Lafiel twice.

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

Save = 7
Drivish stares at the snake, dumbstruck, even as it consumes his allies.

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel shakes her head, then comes back to her senses, while watching in horror as Fargrim is devoured.

Save (1d20=18)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul stares at the snake with his mouth open, fascinated, but wrenches his mind free. "Now it's starting to annoy me," he growls.

Save 1d20=16

male Half elf wizard 7

Rin stares horrified as the dwarf disappears.

Save v stunned (1d20=6)

save (1d20=10)

1d20=6

How many hit points do you have left, Fargrim? I'll try a healing word next round, but I'm not sure if you can take advantage of it under the snake's power.

16 hp, I'm officially 'bloodied'

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Fargrim takes another 5, now down to 11. Barshevy, besides being stunned, does not have LoS to him -- there's snakeskin in the way.

Fargrim

Spoiler:
You are no longer stunned, but are dazed (meaning one action). You can attack the serpent from inside with one-handed or unarmed attacks (the seeming impossibility of missing is countered by the difficulty of getting a backswing)

The snake shifts and again attacks Lafiel, biting her -8hp

Drivish, Rin, and Barshevy are still stunned -- just make saves. Lafiel, Fargrim, and Qadim-sul are dazed this round (one action, grant CA), then will be recovered.
Lafiel, Qadim-sul, Fargrim

male Half elf wizard 7

Just pre-posting for when it's needed.

Save v stun (1d20=10)

Rin starts to pull himself together and searches his memory for some devastating attack.

Barshevy continues to stare mindlessly at nothing.

1d20=1

Comeback Strike 12 vs AC, 16 damage
If it hits, I get to use a healing surge

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel delays till after Qadim-Sul's turn, hoping the situation would be better. Is the snake bloodied yet ? Also, Lafiel herself is bloodied.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"This will at least keep it from running off with the dwarf in its gullet," Qadim-sul says, attempting to throw a lasso of lightning to pull the snake closer.
Lightning Lure vs. Fort (1d20+5=10), Damage (1d6+4=8 lightning)

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel swings, trying to hit the snake, but her wounds prevent her from hitting it.

Sly Flourish vs AC (1d20+9=12, 1d4+6=7, 1d6=1)

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

This being Wednesday, I rolled for Drivish -- he saved, so is dazed

The dazed party members seem unable to damage the snake (which is not bloodied), but shake off their daze. Drivish and Rin, meanwhile, begin to recover, while Barshevy continues to be hypnotized by the shimmering scales.

The snake bites at Lafiel again; fortunately, it does not seem to be venomous -10hp. It then begins to ascend the tree whence it started.

It's one square up, so can still be targeted with melee attacks from land squares next to it, but not water squares

Go in any order. Drivish and Rin are dazed, Barshevy is stunned, and Fargrim is being digested Another -5hp

Female Human Rogue 2

So the snake can be melee-attacked only from P9 and Q9 ? Also, doesn't Lafiel get an OA ?

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7
Lafiel Abriel wrote:

Correct. Lafiel is currently treading water, and the snake has moved out of reach.

6 hp

Sure Strike 13 vs AC, 16 damage

Minor Action (Dwarven Resilience): Second wind. hp: 15 (after second wind)

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel delays till Qadim-Sul's turn.

male Half elf wizard 7

Aiming at Q10, Rin unleashes more flame at the snake.

Scorching burst v Snake (v Ref) (1d20 4=24, 1d6 3=7). Woot! My night for crits. That will be 9hp damage to Mr Slithers.

Struggling to regain control of his body, he nonetheless lets out a sigh of relief as his spell hits.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

The snake squirms under Rin's fiery blast (bloodied).

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul tries again to lasso the snake with a leash of lightning from his blade, cursing colorfully as he misses the mark again.
Minor: Mark with Aegis of Assault (will the automatic damage against Fargrim count as an attack for purposes of the mark?); Lightning Lure vs. Fort (1d20+5=6), Damage (1d6+4=5)

Female Human Rogue 2

Understanding that another comerade's life would end shortly if she doesn't react quickly, Lafiel moves to a better location, then draws another dagger and throws it at the snake, which falls from the tree next to Drivish.

Move to Q7, Trick Strike on snake
Trick Strike vs AC., Damage, Hunter's Quarry (1d20+9=26, 3d6+4=20, 1d6=5)
25 Damage, Shift the snake down to P9 (it should take falling damage as well).

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7
Qadim-sul wrote:

Yes.

Lafiel's strike badly damages the serpent.

You can't force vertical movement. I treated this as trying to shove it off a cliff, but it made its save.

Barshevy needs to make a save. Drivish?

The cleric still has not come to his senses.
