Male Genasi Swordmage 2

The last 2 arrows bring Qadim-sul down to 0 hp, plus the 3 temporary hp from Barshevy's last heal. I don't know how long those last, but I assume he'll fall unconscious at that point. So I guess Qadim-sul will take a second wind.

Female Human Rogue 2

Is there any interesting loot on the dead skeletons ? Or anything else of importance in the room ?

male Half elf wizard 7

As the last skeletons fall, Rin looks uneasily around.

"Where is our giggling friend? Anyone care to take a guess before another batch of skeletons arrive?"

After taking care of the cube, I'll cast Healing Word on everyone, starting with the most injured first (QS), so as to increase the effect of their healing surges. I'll have to take five minute breaks between each casting, so this could take a while.

male Half elf wizard 7

Recovering from the arrow wounds with Barshevy's help, Rin looks around for the invisible giggler.

and gets absolutely nowhere since he rolled a 3.

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

Drivish will gather his hammers, and then converge with the others.

"Barshevy, thanks for your services, but I was barely grazed. I think I can dragon-up until the next fight."

Sovereign Court

Tier One: The mummified body of an enormous ape; seven human brains in cracked casks; 1 potion of healing.
Tier Two: Three coffers containing ruined parchment; two casks of hardened ink; a narrow wooden box holding one dozen writing quills;
Tier Three: A deep puddle of semi-gelled acid over a bronze portal.

Spending the time rootling about counts as a brief rest -- spend your healing surges, level up. See discussion thread.

Female Human Rogue 2

Level up : Took Tumble as a utility power, multiclassed into ranger (took athletics as skill)

To Barshevy : "Thank you for your offer, but I'm not very injured so far, so lets save our powers."

Lafiel starts rummaging through all the stuff on the first tier. After examining the mummified body of an ape she finds, while throwing away useless junk and picking up her shurikens and daggers, she discovers a healing potion and (reluctantly) shows it to the party. "This would probably come in useful. Does anyone need it or I'll keep it ?"

Perception (1d20+6=15)
Can we enter the bronze portal ?

male Half elf wizard 7

Took Feather Fall and Shield at the utility options. Both seem likely to come in handy, given our sublime talent for falling off things. Also realised (used the Character Builder) that he gets another encounter power for being a pact initiate, which in this case will be Dire Radiance. Feat - Jack of all Trades. Again on the basis that any little helps where Rin and athletic ability are concerned. Profile up to date except that pre-rolled inits now need +1 adding to them.

"Acid! Now, if I can just find a way to bottle some of this we'd have an instant bomb."

Is there anything written on the parchment?

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Barshevy: There used to be.
Lafiel: The portal is like a trap door -- looks like it would have to be lifted up. Probably heavy. Can't tell if it's locked without probing through the acid pool.

Anybody have ideas? At the very worst, we can pull it open by hand and then heal the acid burns.

male Half elf wizard 7

Still think we should try and find the invisible giggler. Would it be Perception checks DM? If so, Rin's already rolled and failed, but someone else could try.

I'll have a go then. Rolling for perception:

1d20+3=19

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel looks around, but is disracted by the amount of stuff in the room. She turns her attention to the acid pool and says : "I'm not going to touch that, there's no point in doing it. I don't know much about acids, but would throwing down the giant ape corpse dissolve some of it at least ? If so, we can try that..."

Perception (1d20+6=14)

male Half elf wizard 7

"Lafiel - why do you want to dissolve a mummified giant ape?" Rin is mildly puzzled as he rummages through the rooms looking for anything interesting or useful.

Female Human Rogue 2

"Well... I thought maybe dissolving the ape or anything else in the acid could diminish its power and let us check the trapdoor safely. The ape just happened to be the largest thing in the room - too bad for its corpse."

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

The perception checks gain no new information. The giggler is either quiet or gone.

How deep is the pool of acid? If I reach down to pull the door, will I be putting my face in?

No. Call it 1.5-2'.

male Half elf wizard 7

"Well, if there's no other way out, let's negotiate the acid puddle."

"No, allow me. I, out of everyone, has suffered the least injury thus far."

I remove my chain mail and clothes then step in. If there's a latch, I pull it. Otherwise I'll feel around for some way to open the portal. I'll spend no more than a couple rounds inside. After which I'll cast a Healing Word on myself.

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

Does acid freeze? Would it be outside the capabilities of my dragon breath to attempt to freeze the pool, and then chip it away?

"Hold priest! If anyone aught to be doing that, it should be me or Drivish. Not that I'm volunteering you or anything, Drivish, just sayin."

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel looks puzzled. "Are you serious ? You really want to step inside half a meter of acid ?"

After saying that, Lafiel leans back against a wall and watches.

Are there any other exits from the room ? What about the south wall ? (it's not on the map)

male Half elf wizard 7

"Father, I hope you'll forgive a fool for offering advice, but stripping to your underwear and plodding through acid is insane." He looks at the rest of the party and adds "and that applies to everyone."

If freezing is an option, then Alchemist's Frost is also available. Or it is if Rin can take an hour to rustle it up.

Barshevy is halfway through stripping when he takes a good look at the acid pool. "Er, maybe there is a better way of accomplishing this."

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Not sure what happened to the south wall . . . No other obvious exits. Acid freezes at a lower temperature than water, and there's rather a lot of it, but breathing on it repeatedly would probably work eventually.

Female Human Rogue 2

Is there any container in the room we could use to remove the acid and spill it somewhere else in the room ?

There are plenty of containers of various sizes -- depends on how corrosive the acid is.

Dungeoneering DC12:

Spoiler:
Steel containers should be ok

male Half elf wizard 7

Home rolled. 1d20+7=12!

"Steel would work and tipping it over that blasted cube sounds like a plan as well." Assuming Barshevy hasn't already obliterated it.

I think the acid pool is what is left over from my obliterating the cube.

Female Human Rogue 2

"Lets get to it then". Lafiel tells her companions, then looks around and finds a steel basin in the room. She then starts the long process of filling it with acid and throwing the acid somewhere else in the room.

Whenever someone's hands are splashed by the acid, Barshevy offers to wash them with water from his flask.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Eventually, the acid is dispersed. The portal does not appear to be locked nor trapped, but very heavy (STR DC20 to open, one person may assist).

male Half elf wizard 7

"Sometimes I'm aware of my limitations. This is one of those times."

"Drivish, maybe we should do this." Fargrim assists Drivish.

Strength check (1d20 3=9)
and
Strength check (1d20 3=15)
in case the first fails

Male Dragonborn Fighter/1

"Let's do it."
Strength checks: 1d20+5 = 16; 1d20+5 = 19

Female Human Rogue 2

Lafiel watches while sharpning one of her daggers as the dwarf and dragonborn duo manage to lift the heavy portal door.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

The portal opens into a damp, narrow (5') passage, with rungs set into the wall to climb down.

The sound of crashing water echoes through the hall, and the walls are slick with condensation.

Female Human Rogue 2

"Same order as earlier ? After you Fargrim".

We are using the same marching order as earlier, right ? (Fargrim, Qadim-Sul, Lafiel, Barshevy, Rin and Drivish)

What are we using for illumination? I used up my sunrods in the forest.

If I remember correctly, i still have one sunrod left.

male Half elf wizard 7

"Save the sunrod until we need it. Light I can manage." With a small gesture Rin casts a light spell on the censer that started the whole adventure.

It's a cantrip and he can keep casting it as often as needed.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Ahead, the corridor opens onto a dark, raging river. A narrow stone pathway arches over the river.

male Half elf wizard 7

"Great. Another test of my non-existent acrobatics skill." mutters Rin gloomily. Resignedly, he pulls out his trusty rope and ties it around his waist.

Female Human Rogue 2

"I could go first and tie a rope on the other side. It won't solve all the problem, but it'll be much easier for the rest of you to pass across."

If no one objects, Lafiel ties a rope across her waist and starts moving across the narrow arch. If possible, Lafiel will take 10 for (10+10)=20. If not, she'll probably slip : 1d20+10=13

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

I should have noted that the arch passes over another (30') waterfall. It's wide enough not to require Acrobatics, though.

Sovereign Court

M Human Expert 7

Lafiel safely crosses and anchors a rope.

male Half elf wizard 7

What kind of spell check does Rin need to make to wobble across the rope bridge?
