Nah, they take Canadian Thanksgiving. Paizonians are wanna-be Canadians. *slurp* Oh, excuse me, I just spilled some poutine on my mocassins, eh?

Tarren Dei wrote:Poutine is awesome. The English dish of chips and gravy with extra cheese curds. Excellent. You know, I'm surrounded by poutine but find the stuff disgusting. I've got a heart to take care of. French fries + gravy + cheese = fail ... heart FAILure.
Hmmm Chips n Gravy (Although I prefer vinegar and salt) + a Chicko Roll, calamari and battered Tasmanian scallops.

Chips and gravy? *shudder* It reminds me of the Scottish fascination for battered Curly-Wurlies and battered Mars Bars...
American cheese? You have so few cheeses that you have one called "American"? Good lord - our cheese output in the UK looks pathetic besides the 400 French varieties, but even we have some 30 or 40 types!

The weird thing is not the lack of cheese -- there's plenty of cheese here, although I don't think that there's a huge amount of flavour in most of it -- but that they would pick the worst one to call 'American cheese'. Basically, it's that plastic crap that turns up on Big Macs.

Poutine is great! I agree it's a heart-killer, but everyone can indulge once in a while. Absolutely the best thing to eat when snow-boarding! Delicious, hot, and will make you want to board again, just to lose those calories ;)
I also love mayonnaise with my french fries. I drown them in mayo.
I am born in Canada, both parents are Dutch. Yes, I love mayo :D

I still want to know why anyone would put gravy on perfectly good cheese-fries.
No,no, not cheese-fries, cheese and fries. I find the cheese-fries poutine concept intriguing, hmmm ...?
It took me about 5 years after it came out before trying it but now I'm down with that calorie monster.
I must say that the gravy replusion I see from "statesers" looking at a poutine is funny to me. I remember seeing more stuff with gravy than I could have dreamed up (more like nightmares actualy) every time I was down there!

We got it right on the first try!

There are two big misconceptions about poutine that turn people's stomach. First is the gravy. I was at an Ohio friend's house when I found out that some people think of a thick white sauce as gravy. I'd call my first experience eating biscuits and gravy a negative one and can fully appreciate why someone would think that on fries was gross. So to clear the confusion, the gravy in question is thin brown gravy, sometimes called barbecue sauce.
The other misconception is the cheese. I've had a cheddar poutine. It's all fail. However, curd cheese, what you're supposed to use, is unlike any cheese you might think of. It's chewy and salty and makes a great popper snack. When you melt it and it coats gravy-covered fries, it's a culinary triumph.

Man im a teacher and we get days off for everything and we dont even get Columbus day
try working in Jersey. With the percentage of at least partially Italian citizens, Columbus day is guaranteed off - at least for the kids. Where I work we usually have workshops.
And as for the Poutine stuff, i have no idea what cheese curd is, but the finished product looks like a NJ diner staple called Disco fries. that's fries with mozzarella cheese and gravy. yum.
